Because we all know that later in life we all deal with completely reasonable superiors.

I didn't read it like that - only that there is life after high school and not to put too much importance on one 'missed' opportunity :)

And some of us do try to be reasonable superiors :D

Maybe your daughter can trump the system. ;). Try and meet all those kids in their first week, tell them she is unassigned and if they have any problems or concerns and cannot find their buddy they are also welcome to come to her. ;). Proactive, a little rebellious and even if they never do come to her she has shown what she is made of, in a polite, well meaning way that NOONE could possibly get annoyed at

Good idea!

Also, are there any ways she could volunteer for tutoring lower grades?

I truly don't understand the logic of having the difficult students mentoring the younger ones. It seems like they would be modeling poor behaviors instead of good ones. I'm sorry that education across the pond seems to be as muddled as it is here.

Ugh, I'm kind of angry on your daughter's behalf.
It seems like they more or less designed the system to demotivate those who do a good job already.

I kinda feel like nearly all systems are that way, TBH.

Yes, me too.
I just get extra angry when it's school doing it to kids.

We still don't have a "like" button?!

My Isolated Blurt: talk about taking the wind out of my sales. Had a great idea for a great name - Google says three others out there had the same great idea... before I did.

Drunk cooking is interesting on very many levels.

I have to stop going for (a couple of) beer(s) right before I'm supposed to start cooking and my stomach is so, very empty. I can't handle my liquor in situations like that. It leads to weird cravings and chopping becomes a health hazard.

Hey, you're the one who told me to never drink and dice!

I have a ridiculous need to fix things.

Yesterday I fixed our washing machine. There was a tooth pick stuck in a latch type thing and the spin cycle didn't work. I felt like god when I took it off and the spin cycle started to work again. It was almost as awesome as when I fixed the leaking toilet in winter. I clearly work in the wrong field.

I also have a ridiculous need to bake things. I think that's more normal for me.

What rapture, when you get to fix the oven :p

One of my uncles, who is a good guy really, has started sharing BNP racist rubbish on his Facebook profile  I know he's bitter because of losing his only son and grandson in tragic circumstances, but some of these posts he's endorsing are nasty and hate-filled.

It makes me very uncomfortable and sad. I'm trying to ignore it, but it's upsetting all the same.

Fuck.

I managed to maneuver myself into an awkward situation, by doing something by chance which totally looks like it was done on purpose now.

Arrggh...

Well, I hope you come back and tell us all how you talked your way out of it :D

When I arrived home, and looked out into the garden, the rabbits seemed odd. They were in the furthest corner of the hutch, even though the weather was dry and warm, but their body language was strange - they were lying very still with their ears flat along their backs.

A few minutes later, I looked out again, and saw a kestrel sitting on the fence  I've seen them flying in the fields nearby but never had one in the garden before. I know that they wouldn't manage to take even a dwarf rabbit like mine, but I wonder if it was that which spooked them....

Not unlikely. Look at humans and spiders. Size really doesn't matter in this case.

Nervous for my next appt at the hospital. Given I feel the op was a waste of time, and the meds given me post op have royally fucked with my system, I don't fancy the consultant's chances of getting a word in before I get ragey

:( Sorry to hear that. Give 'em hell and feel better!
