The President: discuss

Obama gelded the Democrats for years to come. It'll be obvious in 2016 when the White House and more of Congress go to the GOP.

He's a good man in a bad spot

And he put himself there to try and do good for his country. I admire and respect him as a man and as an American.

When the Republicans called him a liar from the floor of the house, they should have been hauled from the premises by the police and charged with a crime.

When the leader of the republicans says openly that his mission is to make Obama fail, he should have been sent home in disgrace as a traitor to the people of america.

Obama is the legally elected leader of america, but half of the country never accepted him or gave him a chance.

To me that is not only an insult to Obama but to the Americans who voted for him.

I saw that youtube video. The entire party chanting 'liar' through the entire speech. It was the Judges mooning him while he took the sip of water that should have got them lined up and shot. His restraint was awe inspiring.

No member of the Houses of Parliament is allowed to call another member a 'liar'.

It is on a list of unparliamentary language.

An incomplete list from Wikipedia:

United Kingdom

In House of Commons of the United Kingdom, the following words have been deemed unparliamentary over time:

blackguard
coward
git
guttersnipe
hooligan
hypocrite
idiot
ignoramus
liar
pipsqueak
rat
swine
stoolpigeon
tart
traitor
sod
slimy
wart

Any elected member using the word 'liar' would be suspended from the Houses of Parliament unless they withdrew it immediately.

They tend to reword those here so it doesn't sound bad.

My distinguished colleague

The Gentleman from South Carolina

Madame Chairwoman.

The rationale being that if MPs started calling each other liars, they'd never have time to do anything else.

..and you felt and expressed exactly the same sentiment about those that were "mean" to little Georgy Bush as well, right?

Last I checked free-speech was not a criminal offense. It isn't even slander or libel (civil offenses) if it is true. As it happens he was lying and we know, now that he was not just mistaken, that his team planned a campaign of lies to accomplish his signature legislation.

So, who do you find more repugnant?. Someone that lies on the floor of congress out of disdain for the intelligence of the public, or the person not polite enough to stay silent while he tells an obvious lie?

There were a few differences

One of the first speeches that 'W" made was one on the middle east. In his very best Alfred E. Newman like manner he said that when these people were ready for peace that they would have to make it on their own. He pretty much wiped his hands of the middle east. This hands off Israel policy let the jews force a terrible hardship on the palestinians. For instance they were not allowed the use of trucks because they could pose a security risk, forcing the palestinians to have to compete with burro's against trucks. This is one of the reasons that they hated us so much that they hit the WTC.

After the hit on 9/11 he ripped the lid off of the SS funds and used it to to hide the damage his tax cuts were doing, while he lied to america about why we needed to go to war against a man who had fought against the people who hit us.

After mismanaging government to the point of ruin he slinks back to ask congress to give him what is left in the treasury to bail out his rich friends who had just through their greed brought us to our knees.

You want to compare that with any little white lies Obama might have said?

Compare what they had to work with and what they got done.

Obama wins hands down.

I can't think of anything good to say about any republican president since Ike.

I stopped reading when you denigrated the office of President in your first sentence. Which was my point.

well, go on.

I'm not a fan. I did not vote for him in '08 or in '12. He does a reasonably shitty job as Commander in Chief, his domestic public policy objectives are muddled and unclear and he is not prosecuting the foreign policy he was elected on.

Vette, I bet you were one hell of a marine

He's lied to us all along. You, blinded by your sycophancy, can't or won't see it.

When exactly did you turn against your commander in chief?

Was there ever an hour when you would admit that he was your lawfully elected leader?

If he was white would you have hated him this much?

Is it true what they say about guys who drive Vettes? (you know the small dick thing)

You guys should stop attacking each other over people you have never even met...

The truth about the president is that he is as far left as a person can be without falling over the side. Fine.. Whatever...Everybody knew that going in.

What really bothers me is that he could have been a uniter.
The first black president. He could have moved race relations worlds forward. Instead, he is all about the party and his ideology. Race relations are at a low.

His lies are legion. But really, the old saying applies to them all ...How can you tell when a politician is lying? He is speaking.

All he ( and really all politicians today) want to do is keep their parties in power.

They all suck!

Term limits!!!! Please!!!

Term limits would be a good place to start.

Sure - so then the bureaucrats can run the asylum more than they already do? NOT

How about MORE representation? Double it.

870 Members of Congress and 200 Senators.

After all this is a Republic.

Well, we only need 50 senators and they need to be appointed by the state legislatures again and subject to immediate recall if needed.

Yes to more reps in the house.

The bureaucrats run things because the entrenched reps let them. If they had to please a new group of legislatures every two ears they would be a little more forthcoming with reports and accounting.

We have term limits, they're called elections.

Without external term limits, there is an incentive for locals to retain the incumbent for the pork he or she can bring home because of the power they wield on committees based on seniority.

My statement was mostly snark, since I too believe that there should be limits to the number of terms one can serve in office. When holding an office becomes a career rather than a sacrifice to serve the people it's a problem.

I think you nailed it there.

it was never supposed to be a job much less a career.

when they get rich while doing it somebody got screwed.

It isn't how long they serve but why they serve and what is it that makes them want to cling to power what is going on in the background.

since we cant possibly know all that throw them all out after 6 or 8 years at most.

Let's do this: Same pay and benefits as the military. No retirement till after 20 years.
