Edge
I didn't enter the town right off. I decided as I reached the outskirts that they might be watching from the clearing above, so i waited, moving carefully through the trees to a place where the overgrowth was thick and settling in there, letting myself doze once I felt they wouldn't be able to find me.
WHen I awoke again, it was nearing daylight. The sky was lightening, and the sounds of their pursuit had ceased. The town was gaining some life, but not fully awake yet. People were gathering in the streets but they weren't quite alive with the daily commerce one would expect, even in a small town.
I crept from my hiding place and moved toward town, entering carefully, moving among the people as soon as I could, unsure of whether they still might be watching from above.
As i tried to blend in, not easy with a sword at you side and two strapped to your back, I saw a man coming toward the inn, catching the eys of those around him, dressed in chain mail and looking as though he served someone of royal blood, perhaps.
I followed the man, keeping my distance on the off chance I might have wronged his lord in some way, then entered the tavern behind him and watched as he approached the bartender and requested a message be taken to some woman he'd met the ngiht before. I debated approaching and asking who he served, and if that person might be in search of loyal subjects (who might also be well-paid), then decided to lay back for a while. I sat in the corner, watching the man and the other patrons from afar.
