Words to Taps
(Note: there are no "official" words to Taps
below are the most popular.)

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.
Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light;
And afar
Goeth day,
And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

Thanks to all the vets, world wide, today, those who are serving, have served and have been laid to rest.

Peace to all on this day of remembering.

I am a little surprised that nobody has quoted Laurence Binyon's For the Fallen at greater length.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

All you young and vibrant writers and readers who are so pleasant to mingle with here on the net, please do not forget them when we old fogies are not here to remind you.

July 4th is almost here and I would like to remind all of you that American soldiers still are fighting and dying for freedom......Though I do not recall the song the line is something like......"the American fights for the rights of every man" We we are doing this in the Middle East right now and fran kly I don't care of you agree or not. To often the sacrifices of these brave individuals are forgotten or pushed aside. There are many social programs in this country to help those in need, but sadly often veterans who did so much for this country are neglected. It is the nature of history for things to improve or for there to be at least progress. Even in the worst days of the Roman Empire veterans recieved their pay. Many over time were rewarded with a pension and land for those who were not citizens they become full Romans. So as I have said before when you see those tired old men at the American Legion or that neighbor who only mentioned in passing that he served in Vietnam. Simply say thank you....I have done this and often the reaction is amazing. I hope those of you overseas do this as well. Take care and God Bless.
