So, I've been off work for various reasons in the last few weeks and have found myself watching a lot of movies as a result.

I seem to spend longer picking a movie than actually watching it though!

Here's some recommendations of movies I've watched over the last few weeks.

Put your own recommendations in here (along with a bit about them if you want to) and the films don't have to be new ones!

Red Dragon - a Hannibal Lector film, really good.
The Negotiator - Samuel L Jackson, Kevin Spacey, hostage situations
The Martian - Matt Damon gets rescued from Mars
Midnight Run - Classic De Niro comedy
Predator - Get to the chopper!!
The King's Speech - to quote Charlie Brooker, "Rocky for stutterers"

Man Up- a lesser known Simon Pegg movie that is cute and funny. RomCom.

The Voices - a horror/comedy. Be warned, you'll get the song from the closing credits stuck in your head.

Dope - a preppy black kid accidentally gets pulled into a drug ring

Hellboy-good action, some comedy
The cell-jennifer lopez. Horror, drama. Entering the mind of a comatose serial killer. Also beautifully shot.l

The Lover-illicit affair between a french girl and a wealthy chinese man in 1929. Nudity
Constantine-Keanu Reeves, good vs evil. Demons and angels. I love this movie.
The Prophecy-christopher walkins (more cowbell) angels & demons as well,

My husband said it after the movie and I couldn't take a shower for 3 days. I was absolutely terrified. I would start shaking when he would start to whisper it. I haven't been that scared from a movie since. Now I can watch it no problem!

Well, leaving the horror theme...We are taking lil man to see Kung Fu Panda 3 tonight. Hopefully I can give you a recommendation if its fun for the family.

Little Big Man Dustin Hoffman comedy-drama-western

King of Hearts- set in WW1 The inmates are now the townspeople drama-comedy

Swordfish- action Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, John Travolta

Drama--What Dreams May Come- one of Robin Williams' best dramatic roles.

Horror- The Shining (but it must be the 6 hour long made for tv version. It follows the book more closely than the original.)

Musical- Labyrinth.

Humor and action- The Kingsmen.

The Judge - wonderfully unexpected
The Intern - a charming feel-good movie
Spy - just funny
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen - a recent re-watch for me

"Something's Gotta Give" - great actors giving entertaining performances with a witty script.

For action, pick any of the "Mission Impossible" movies.

Recently, "Spotlight" - talented ensemble cast give nuanced performances on an important subject.

Requiem for a Dream- heartbreaking drama of addiction
Honeymoon in Vegas- guilty pleasure, even if it does star Nicholas Cage

Brooklyn: just a warm, sweet, beautiful movie
Spotlight: nearly perfect. Understated but powerful performances. Just blew me away.
The Big Short: a kind of fun spin on the financial crisis. Really unique feel. Great performances.

And I recently rewarded Pitch Perfect. Just really really fun to see a movie not take itself too seriously.

Sliding Doors - super interesting premise of "what if". Story splits and you follow both paths of her life and what would have happened. Extremely well done.

Moonrise Kingdom - Wes Anderson quirky and fun.

Creed was phenomenal. I'm a life-long Rocky fan so this was very satisfying.

Buckaroo Banzai- I tried explaining this movie to someone the other day and I basically made it sound like the most ridiculous thing ever. But man is it a fun movie.

The Wrestler- devastating but what a great piece of art

The Royal Tenenanbaums- one of my all time favorites, the entire cast is so good.

But right now I want to mention 3 films that always touch my heart...

Namesake, Cheenikum and Lunch Box...All are Bollywood films, and beautiful touching stories...If you can find them, please watch...Most versions of each are in English now, if not the subtitles are easy to watch....I think Netflix has them in the Foreign section...
