The Seven Keys.

Tana wandered about singing happily playing with grwoles .. until growles sniffed the air and started moving towards the scent of another wolf..

"what's wrong Growls where are you going?"

Tana followed the wolf and then suddenly froze.. she saw another wolf in front of growls and it seemed to look like it was stalking some one .. and he was entering the tavern

She hid behind a tree to watch the wolf .. and hoped nothing would happen to growls..

Truning to see another wolf growling at the back door of the tavern. Tela quickly moved forward to stand between the door ,and the new wolf.

She new her friend could take care of himself, but this wolf had the sent of one of the people she had meet earler, and the last thing they needed was a fight.

Just as silently as Garin had crept into the tavern, he made his exit. The scent caught his nose almost immediotly, a full blooded wolf stood next to a woman he had never seen before. His hackles were raised in threat and he growled angrily at him. Though Garin was slightly bigger than the other wolf he had learned never to underestimate any wolf just for being smaller. He noticed Tela standing between them, did she know this one?

"Who are you?" he sent to the wolf. "Why do you threaten my friend?"

Looking to Tana as she came into view. Tasha asked her. Please call off your friend... The wolf behinde me is a friend of mine, and will not attack unless your friend dose first. I do not wish for ether of them to be harm'd in any way. As she contiued to stand firmly between the two wolves.

Yrismir

Yrismir sighed. Great. He could see already that this was just going to be a long session to piss him off.

"Hey, you know what, I always knew you were alive, because your a Gods-damned tree, and it's kind of obvious even to a casual observer. And you know what, even if I had known you were sentient, I never would have come to you for help, because you're a damn tree. I'm not a tree, in case you hadn't noticed. Therefore, I seriously doubt if you would be very much help with any of my problems."

"Now, as for what mother told me? When? Why does it matter? Who cares? Why don't you just tell me what the damn abilities are and we can get on with this? Because, like you said, the other Races went along fine without having to answer your questions, and whether you help me or I just start hunting down and killing the other racers and taking the keys they collect, I can win without having to go through all your crap."

Cali

Amazingly, I could find neither hide nor hair of anyone with half a clue that spoke common. And sadly, my orc is basically enough to insult the heck outta someone and not much else.
Being able to call someone's mother a flower toting weenie wasn't going to help me much here.
So I muddled on, walking through corridors and more courtyards (some with the oddest statues!) and finely found my way to a rather large tree... that was talking with Yris.
I listened for a moment, trying to figure out what the hell was going on before giving up and announcing my presense.
"Hey, Yris, need any help?"

OOC: (Rone check you PM box)

Tana, Tela, Garin, and Growlesi

Tana hushed close to growls in fear of this new wolf.. She looked at the wolf across her and realized that he was threatening her.. she had no idea this wolf was friends with the youg girl standing between them.. but she figured it would be time enough to figure out these beings.. She looked up and watched as the half moon began to climb the sky and said, "Come on Growles, the wolf wont hurt me... Growls was just trying to protect me.. " She turned stiffly and wandered towards the inn Ramas and Trianna were in.

Yrismir and Dri

Dri explains that the area that you are standing on is a bunch of caverns and tunnels that are roots of this tree.. and that is where tenora has hidden her book.. it is up to you and your ciompanions to decide whether you want to find the book this way .. of course he knows where the book is and would have helped had you been nicer to him but decides against it and says within me lies the book.. down below and through my root. Come what may within my bark.. Heed my advice and speak my toungue lest you be weary of my creatures .. they dont like invaders in their home..

Your abilites are that you can speak to any tree and plant and they will tell you what they know.. as for anything else .. find the book within the roots.. and you will have your answers..

Tela turned to Garin once Tena, and Growls left. Its good to see you again. Come with me we can talk in my quarter's. She said smiling as she lead the way.

Yrismir

Yrismir grunted.

It was a familiar grunt to those that knew him, though few people who did knew what it meant. It was his way of looking down on people because they didn't seem to have what it took to take a direct approach.

As a soldier, Yrismir's life had been very simple, where his mother wasn't involved. And throughout it all, he had always felt that people who sidestepped or played games simply did so because of some need to bring problems to others.

Yrismir saw no point for the ability to talk to plants, for plants did not have the senses he did, nor would they think in the way animals did. Their lives and his were too alien in order to have enough ideas in common in order to carry on a conversation, or for him to get information from them. Perhaps this tree, and others like it, but the chances of running across another one was unlikely, and he didn't see any reason to talk to this one again.

It didn't like his attitude, and Yrismir didn't like its.

Plus, it made no sense. Creatures in it weary of intruders unless he spoke like the tree? Yrismir had a better idea, just not speaking at all. He'd leave whatever symbiont or parasites he ran across alone, and unless they too were sentient and foul-tempered, they'd leave him alone as long as he left them be.

Yrismir didn't bother asking how a book could be in a place untouched by water if that was the inside of a tree and trees absorbed waters through roots. It would probably spark some other discussion from the tree.

He turned toward Cali's voice. "No. I'm fine. Get some rest."
Yrismir turned to the tree, and glanced around. "Okay, so how do I get down there to poke around? And would you happen to have a light, or should I just make my own?"

Dri looked at Yris and groaned ... it seemed he would never understand that to every race there were rules which had to be followed if it was so easy for him to make assumptions on gifts given to him and that were rarely given to others.. then this task was going to be difficult for him.. and of course his endless assumption that he himself needed to take on every task by himself .. perhap Dri would just let him do so ... it might teach him to ask for help now and then...

Dri felt a tingling in his roots that spread along the entire village.. it wasnt like he couldnt figure out who he came with..and how some of hte people within the city would be able to help him in this task, but Dri knew it was a simple choice.. and it appeared Yris wished to make it difficult for himself.. true it was hard for people to understand his being .. but .. if Yrismir was going to "save the world"... he had better learn to understand and appriciate its different entities that existed otherwise there was no point in learning these things...

Yrismir

Yrismir raised his head to the heavens, and looked at the tree again. It had groaned. Not answered his question, but groaned.

"Look, what is it now? Key's in the roots, try not to bother your creatures that are wandering around, get it, move on. What's with the groaning and not being helpful? Come on, show me ow to get down in there, I'll try not to bother whatever ecology you have down there and leave. It's not like you've got horrors beyond comprehension down there. I'd like to get this over with and get cleaned up as soon as possible. Move on with things of importance, you know."

As the woman aproached he felt a strong pull from deep inside his being, calling to this woman. He allowed himself a moment of hope, could this be the woman of his destiny? Only one way to find out. Faster than he should be able he shifted into his human form. It had been awhile sinec he had been in this form for meeting others and imagined his face had a soft beard growing, masking his strong features. His brown pants and vest were in need of repair, his skin however was still just as light brown as when he left it. The giant claw rested in his sheath, but that was not what had drawn his attention. Looking down at his chest he had confirmed what the pull was. The ring given to him so long ago, was letting off the softest light. It had not reacted to Tela, when they had met, it could only mean...

"Madam, wait please," he said to her as she walked twoards the Tavern. "Forgive me, I was only trying to protect my friend Tela. Now however, it seems there are two that I wish to protect." Garin bowed at the waist to her. "My skills are yours to command M'lady..." he left his final words open, hoping to draw out her name.

Seeing Garin go to speek with Tana. Tela did not wish to interfear or be a distraction in any way. Knowing that Garin could take care of himself she sliped quietly back out of the way. Going to her quarter's to rest.

He caught Tela walking away and though he wanted to speak with her again, he would wait, besides her scent was very easy to catch; no one else smelled of wolf and elf. He sent her a message into her mind alone, using the language of wolves. 'I will come see you soon my friend.'

It took Goven a moment before he got up again, brushing himself off, and staring at the door with a hateful indifference. Anger swelled up in him, raging and bubbling like nothing that had ever moved passed him before. He felt bigger than himself, a volcanoe ready to blow, willing to blow...

"I've been through too much," He spat, walking forward, his words low and growling, thick with venom, as was the rest of him.

"Too many people wanting my head on a platter. Too many people taking shit from me, too many chances I never took, and too many regrets."

He turned back to the big brute of a monster, the collar around his neck, glowing, calling to him, mocking his very will.

"Not anymore," He swirled the staff around him, as dark magic sparked and fizzled, snapping at the very air, tainitng it with a foul stench.

"Come out, come out wherever you are."

He pounded on the door, shaking it to its frame, making it squeal, making the whole magic inside thie place shift and tumble.

"We're ready to play..."

He pounded again, harder, pressing one force against the other, hoping against hope that this magician had something harder, something more substantial than these silly little cantrips. If the magician did, maybe, maybe it would kill Goven here and now... and he wouldn't have to deal with this shit.

But, Goven didn't think so. He could hope for death, but it would never come. His curse was now immortality.

"Dying time's here," He took back his staff, like a weapon, and smashed it against the door. Something was going to break. There was just too much power inside the room, too much force on eother side, and now, nothing aside from a miracle could save them from the inevitable destruction.

Smiling Tela sent her own message back to her friend. Adding in the feeling of reasurance. As she lay down to rest for the night.

It is alright my friend... Take your time. You can find me easy enough... I am just glad that you are alive, and well. We can talk later.

Cali

Yes, Yris was holding a conversation with a damn tree and it was giving him a hard time apparently.
Shaking my head, I ignored his "get some sleep" and moved closer to the tree.
"Wow, I've never seen a talking tree before," I said, a curious light to my voice. Even my body language was open and friendly. "What kind of tree are you? Or are you a tree at all even?"

Getting up with the Dawn Tela changed form's and slipped out of the village to do a little hunting. Hoping to help repay the villager's kindness by brining back at least a deer, or a boar.

Micaelae

Micaelae shot a blast of energy into one of the gnoll's back, dropping ti sizling to teh ground. With a flick of his hand the body creaked upwards, obviously dead as it swung at its former comrade, crushing tis face in with undead strength.

"Is this all?so trivial"He snapped his fingers and dissapeared in a rush of black cloth, leaving Ambrasia huffing in anger and Lucia to clean up the rest.

with another rustle he stood besides Goven. He stumbled a bit as the waves of force hit him then straightened. His red, ruined eye glowed strangely."Goven what are you doing?!You'll bring the place down!"He grumbled and brought his hands from his sides and up,a slim barrier of energy encircling the door, slowing and calming as much of the energy that was backlashing into the surrounding stone.

"Well...that should hold for a few moments"He gasped out,his hands still raised as small cracks appeared along his ruined arm,a mute testament to how much energy he was using.

Dri touched Cali and then watched her with interest.. he thought to himself see this one knows I live.. she knows of spirits. something which is not a stubborn axe welding orkish elf.. Dri smiled at Cali then spoke in Elven, "Hello, your highness, I simply am.. what I am.. you could say that yes I am a tree... but only old trees such as me develop spirits and besides the wise one chose me a long while back .. every since then I have just been."

Dri looked at yris and said," Just follow the path that winds inside.. the creatures which reside inside me are not of my choosing just as the parasites which inhabit your body are not of yours... I simply advice you to take this task with friends.. it may be too difficult for you by yourself.. " he stood aside and the tree split in half and created and entrance.. " Here is the way .. may the Goddess Ulaa protect you .."

Yrismir

Yrismir rolled his eyes at the tree. Yes, a few creatures who's nature was to live of a creature that couldn't harm them, that actually protected them from harm, were going to be too much for a creature that had spent over a century developing his skills as a warrior.

And he was a Dwarf. He shook his head, and drew his sword, headimg down a few feet before looking back. "Cali, you want to come? I could use someone who can make light and isn't an annoying-ass tree."

Cali

I giggled at Yris' words, couldn't help it. "I would love to accompany you. Should we let the others know that we're going?"

Changing to her elven form, and brining her kill back to the village. Tasha smiled She hadnt done too bad she mannaged to take down her first deer in wolf form.

Giving the deer to the villagers she accepted their thanks, and looked for her new companions.

Back to the Baddies

Viktor grudgingly gave ground, under the onslaught from the knolls. Already some dozen of the creatures lay dead or dying all about them and yet they still pressed in. The group must have stumbled into a barracks or some damn thing. 'Damned rotten luck.' Viktor thought to himself.

At that moment, the furry wall of monsters in front of Viktor hesitated a moment, as they became distracted by one of their numbers bursting into flames, courtesy fo Micaelae's magics. The squealing, shreaking knoll ran too and fro as the smell of burning hair and flesh filled the room. A break appeared between the knolls and Viktor imeaditaly siezed the initiative, charging between two of the creatures and barreling through the still-open left doorway. The move took the knolls by suprise, but Viktor had little time to look around.

The new room was circular, with a high celing. a thick T-shaped beam rose up from the center of the room, but that was all Viktor had the time to take in. Yet another knoll loomed large in front of him. Unable to stop his charge, Viktor threw himself bodilly into his adversary. The two crashed together, the impact, suddenly stopping Viktor's forward momentum and sending the suprised knoll tumbling backwards. It fell against the base of the huge T-beam, jarring it loose with a loud *crack*. Bits of dust and rock fell from the celing and caused the knolls still in the room to look up fearfully.

Viktor had an idea and leapt to his feet, sprinting forward and leaping, planted both feet against the already damaged T-beam. The beam split silently, engulfed in the eerie void of sound around Viktor, but another cracking, splintering sound came from higher up. The base of the beam fell, and a second later, a torrent of stone and debris followed onto the horrified visages of the surrounding knolls.

Viktor himself rolled and scrambled desperatly, trying to get back through the doorway and to get out of the way of the falling wreckage.

He didn't make it.

Many of the knolls shreaked one final time in horror as the celing fell in, crushing perhaps another dozen of the creatures and blocking the doorway between Viktor and the others.
