The Manticore

He snorted. "No, poeple usually don't explain the ways of the world before I kill them. And being stuck in a cave doesn't get you all the latest news."

He felt the scrath behind his ears and turned his head around to look at Garret. "I'm not a dog, you know. It just so happens I find that particularly annoying. Please stop."

"Whoah, hey. Ok, I was just trying to be helpful."
Physical violence wasn't always the way to go with answers, but sometimes it was the only way to get anywhere with some people.
He supposed with a Manticore protecting his back he didn't have much to worry about. Yet, if this wizard was right he'd need more than a warlike beast to make it out alive.

Phaedures

The group laft, and I watched through the window as they headed off, my mug of ale held in one hand. A pity. THe story was an interesting one...unusual, and probably full of shit, but interesting nonetheless. People began tapering in after a few hours. Among them were the elders I had waited so patiently for.
I sat abck and listened as they rattled off various useless facts about useless things...town matters. I wasn't interested. Then the information came that I was interested in. I listened as the topic made its sweep through the tavern, then bounced back, holding new information. As it moved back and forth, I waited for a description to surface of some kind. No one would say an exact description, but a few distinctive markings, odditites that almost anyone would have, would surface at some point. But the description never came. THe talk was broken by the tavern door opening and a young woman entering, an elf, dressed in all black with long red hair. SHe spoke up instantly..
"I'm looking for someone who I believe has recently visited here..."

Elanor:

Elanor was bored. She had tried to be patient, she really really had. But she was bored. And hungry again.

She wondered how long she'd have to wait for some dinner. Riding on the Manticore was all very well and good, but it certainly didn't even rate against a nice hot bowl of broth or dumplings.

And the brown-haired guy was so cross. She didn't even knowhis name. So she sulked. She watched as he had an argument with the Manticore. She hoped that it would turn around and eat the rude nasty man.

She sighed loudly.
"Arthur, nice try with the apples but now it's time for real food" she complained "So, chicken broth, dumplings and potatoes,......please!" A strange whinging was heard on the wind. "Oh stop being such a little sissy!"

As they rounded the corner, a tiny inn suddenly came into view. Elanor scrambled off the back of the Manticore and rushed inside.

The inn was smaller inside than out, just a room really, with a square, linen covered table and three chairs.
A table was laid neatly for three, gleaming silverware, steaming hot bowls of soup, and two large covered tureens.
Small tumbles of wine were by each place. "Nice touch!" Elanor exclaimed sitting down to eat greedily.

The Wizard

He slowly got off the horse. He'd been sleeping, but had awaken.

He climbed down, and entered the small Inn. He took a seat, and slowly ate. He looked up at the girl, and then turned to the empty space before his gaze returned to his food. "Thank you very much, Arthur."

He'd been riding next to the girl, and had been quite surprised when she'd started talking to nothing. But, being as tired as he was, he didn't bother to comment on it. Wasn't his business, anyway.

Now, though, he was begining to wonder where nothingness ended and Arthur began. Deciding it wasn't his place to question a meal, he simply ate.

The Manticore

They stopped. Deciding not to question it, he searched the surrounding trees and bushes for food. A few berries, a great deal of nuts, but nothing to overwhelming.

Oh well, it would do...

Phaedures

SHe explained her quest ina few short words...looking for someone, in search of any information...the basics. Someone wanted to find someone and had sent her. Welcome to the club. THen she spoke the name, and I suddenly froze in place. Could it be?
I debated speaking up, but wasn't sure what to say. The elf seemed very determined, a good trait, but one that cold be manipulated.
Someone else spoke up then, pointing toward the edge of town and I immediately remembered the odd little group.
"The person you seek has only recently left, headed with a few others and an odd sort of beast in that general direction."
An odd beast? Yes, that was them, and I'd let them leave.
"Then I must gothat way...toward the mountains. COuld anyone serve as a guide?" she asked.
No one spoke up. This was my chance. I stood, raising a hand to gather her attention.
"Um...actually, I can't be a guide, but the mountains are not a safe place...I could come along for further protection, for a fee of course."
SHe wanted to speak up, tell me how she needed no man to protect her, I could see that in her eyes alone, not to mention her mannerisms. But she thought better of it, and nodded to me.
Then we were off.

Garret raised his hands, looking at the group that was no longer there?
"Does not one else find this odd?" He asked to absolutely no one. They had all gone into this magical inn or had gone searching for their own food.
"Come on..." he was surprised at the wizard. They had been in danger since this whole thing started, and the first thing he does is sits comfortable in a weird inn that just appeared and eats strange food. Well, he was a wizard, food poisoning and kidnapping probably weren't his top priorities.
Not him though, he was going to stay right here. It was safe outside, and there was nothing that was remotely dangerous.
He sighed... burning daylight.

The Manticore

Having gathered as much food as he could, he decided to return. His stomach was not yet full, but he doubted if he would find anything to fill it soon. He wandered back over to Garret, and sat down on his hindquarters.

"Find what odd? Are not such human-dwellings common?"

ooc: whats up peoples i've been going through alot of shit lately i found out that my girlfriend is having a baby and we always seem to be fighting so i haven't been able to do much so if someone will fill me in i'll try and get back in this

OOC: Okay, it's only been about a page since you left, but if you really want....

We've left the tavern, and, after about twenty minutes of travel, we came upon a small Inn, and stopped. That's it.

Ooc: We left the town and are about to go to a mountain. I'm not sure much after that, but I assure you Grand Mage has some sort of plan for us to follow.

"The building is an hour's ride away from anywhere," he said, turning to the beast, "It's an eatery that has no people in it, and food just happens to be on the table... for a human dwelling, yes, that's very odd."
He shook his head, "Beyond odd, it's downright suspicious."

Elanor:

Elanor felt much happier with a warm dinner in her belly. The wizard seemed to be enjoying his food too, but the snooty brown haired boy wouldn't come inside.

His loss, Elanor thought, swallowing a mouthful of hot, buttery mashed potato.

She sighed. Maybe Mr Brown Hair wouldn't be so cross if he had some nice hot food.

"Arthur, thankyou for the luvverly dinner. Maybe you could give some to Mr Brown Hair too?" she grinned into the empty space. "I wonder what he likes to eat? Maybe- I know, roast chicken and fresh hot bread. And some of this wine too. And maybe some greens for the Manticore to munch of too"

Phaedures

We stopped when we saw the small dwelling, looking around to see if we were being watched ourselves.
She looked to me, astonished. "This wasn't here before..."
I shrugged. I'd seen more unusual...like that large animal that sat outfront. What the hell was that?
"We have to wait here, make sure the person you're looking for is here, then we can go forward. Besides, I want to see what this thing can do before we get any closer to it..."
She stared forward for a few seconds, then nodded slowly.

ooc: i see well whenever your ready i'm ready for a few supprises so lets go

The Manticore

He was happily looking around when suddenly food appeared before him and Garret. Without a question, the monster greedily devoured the greens.

Garret said, "Hey! What if that's poisoned?"

The monster turned, and brought it's sting up. "Poison is useless against me. It only strengthens my venom. Here, I'll check."

He wandered over to a nearby tree, and quick as lightning, his sting imbedded itself in the trunk of the tree. He lifted a large lion paw, and extended his claws. He slashed out at the tree, gouging large chunks of wood out. After two more swipes, he lifted the greater part of the tree clear, leaving only a stump.

The tree slid forth from the sting, slamming on the ground on the side of the path, well away from everyone. The entire section where the sting had been imbeded was green and rotten, spreading every minute. The creature padded back to Garret. "Nope. No poison. Natural reaction."

"You know what we could do..." He mused, "That will be command Alpha. When I say it, you do that, oh man it'll scare anyone who wants to screw with us."
He moved the food away from him purposely, calling out to everyone.
"Ok... enough mooching off some weird magical mumbo jumbo. Last time I checked we have a world to save or whatever."
Not quite sure what they were up against, he still felt as if there was a needed urgency, and that they weren't alone.

Okay, does anyone remember this, or wish to start it from the begining in a more organized manner?

For it was fun. At least, in a chaotic way. I feel, add a more organized start and structure, and this might go all the way to ten pages!!

Ahh, yes...The Sorceror's Staff...I posted on this about ten times and never interacted for one second. It died just as I reached the others...
*sigh*
My first attempt...a failure.
Oh, well. IF you can get it going, maybe Phaedures can come back again.

If it's more organized, I wouldn't mind going for a second run. I've never been one to turn down a challenge.

Well, I got an OOC up. New one should be up and running in a couple of days. Feel free to pop on it.
