The Starlette

"Mr. Dresden? Your 2 o'clock is here."

Saul quit staringat thepaperwork infront of him and scowledat theintercom. Fox was trying to screw with the residuals on the upcoming syndication deal, so Saul was in a foul mood. Of course, most of the people who worked with him would say that was Saul's default setting.

"2 o'clock?! Who the fuck is it, Jenny?" he growled. The cigar clenched between his right molars muffledhis rumbling bass drum of a voice.

Jenny had survived 2 years as his assistant, in no small part because she didn't get rattled by his ire. "Catalina Russo," she responded.

"Never heardof her. I'm too goddam busy to mess with nobodies today. Cancel and reschedule!"

"She's the one that Kathryn spotted in Europe and signed on for that character in the Scorceseproject."

Recognition dawned. "Oh, that one." He glanced at the end platinum watch wrapped around his thick left wrist. "Fine, send her ass in here."

Saul bit down into the cigar. He'd given up actually smoking them at his wife's insistence, but wasn't prepared to chuck them entirely. He brushed back what remained of his hairline and turned to face the door.

Kathryn had done an end run around him on this one. Spotted her in some foreign film that had done well at Cannes and thought her perfect for some supporting role in Marty's next project. The same role that Saul had slotted for someone else. But Kathryn had shown her to Marty, so now it'd be a "thing". Saul had to sign of on her, though, so he wanted at least a onceover.

There was a knock at the door.

"Come in! " Saul bellowed.
