The True Intent Of Indiana’s ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill

First off let me say you would be hard pressed to find anyone who hates organized religion more than me or the hypocritical scum who tout their "family values"

I also don't believe in any form of discrimination not by color, by gender, by sexual preference

Having said that, they have the legal right to discriminate if they choose by claiming its their religious beliefs.

If they want to be ignorant, let them be. Let their businesses go out of business. Its their right

But at that point own your damn shit and admit it for what it is and stand your fucking ground. Because the back tracking and spin doctoring makes them look even worse.

if this is all about religious conviction the stand up for your conviction

On a lighter note...if someone says they won't serve blacks...okay they see a black person they say get out...

But if you discriminate against gays...how is that enforced? If they see two guys or women come in for lunch together do they ask, "hey, are you gay?"

Cus that worked so well for blacks and other minorities. They won't go out of business at all. If anything they'll get extra sales and force other businesses to follow suit. Either discrimination is legal because you feel like it, no excuse needed or it's not and religion is not an excuse.

I don't agree.

Back in the sixties and prior when segregation was common it was a far different society than it is now. Mostly because the "good ole boys" were raising their kids the way they were raised, its a lot different these days.

Look at the outrage this bill has already garnered. People are talking about boycotting an entire state.

We're not perfect, but as a society we are far less bigoted and far more accepting than we were years ago.

As for your other point Religion is not an excuse, its a cheap loop hole being used to promote this ignorance.

And I think if people want to discriminate they can. I don't think they're right, but I think they have the right and in this day and age they can lose business to those who don't.

I disagree!

We have legalized and for profit bigotry, perpetrated by the NFL, with their allowing of the Washington Slurs.

It really isn't any different. The last six years under Obama have shown us that it's gone underground but it's still there and if you legalize it, it will happen. And sure people are talking about boycotts right now, ask Chic-fila or Rush Limbaugh how long the public actually stays pissed about this kind of thing. In six months the general attitude will be "flee to a state that doesn't think that way. Why stick around a place that doesn't want you."

We are definitely less bigotted than we were a generation ago but it's only going to take a single generation of proving the opposite to be tru for everything to snap back into it's right proper place.

Like I said, either you can discriminate on a whim or you can't. Because otherwise give a few years before people start finding various clauses to discriminate based on whatever they want. Women, Asians, Hispanics, whatever. We have an obligation to stomp this shit out.

Some discrimination is illegal and some is not. Persons in Indiana with religious convictions against homosexuality cannot now be compelled to transact business with homosexuals. This is not illegal there, although it would be illegal in CA and some other states.

For what it's worth, I think it's a dumb law and, if I lived in Indiana, I would try to overturn it, but it is not the only dumb law on the books.

The mayor of Indianapolis (also a Republican) is asking the General Assembly to look into overturning or at least making some type of legislature to counteract this law within Indianapolis. Governor Pence must have thought he'd be able to slide this through with little to no backlash but it looks like it may very well end his career (fine with me after Glenda Ritz was elected and they decided to make her position an appointed one when she beat their man).

"The first thing you have to do when you have a problem is admit you have a problem,” Senate Minority Leader Tim Lanane said. “You have to be able to be willing to set aside all the politics. But in the years I’ve been here, I’ve seen it — the radicalism of the right wing has taken over.

“In this case, that’s what happened. They need to do a reversal, a 180 on this, towards the path of healing the reputation of the state

I believe the discrimination is usually in the wedding industry. If a gay or lesbian couple approached a bakery to order a wedding cake or a wedding planner or somebody like that, they would have to let the business person know about their sexual orientation.

I would think bakeries and wedding planners would fight FOR Same Sex marriages: It would increase their businesses.

Pence has gone scorched-Earth on this issue. At this point, it seems the only thing he's interested in right now is establishin' his bonafides for the Christian Reich for 2020. He's the next Huckabee.

They can't give up on 2016 yet!

So would I. However, if somebody really does have religious scruples against SSM - and there are some who do - they would sacrifice business with gay or lesbian couples to avoid being a part of it.

And destroy everything that America claims to be along with it. Done with America? Fine. Can't say I'm not willing to to throw the die but don't pretend you aren't scum.
