Candace Lewis had just finished up another court case. This time, she had just finish the 5th day of trial for a mob boss who was accussed of killing 18 men and women, all were former employees and family...

She knew she had gained enemies from this job, which is why her exit from the courthouse was always hidden..she never brought her own car to work, the DA's office provided a driver and a limo for her. All on the taxpayers dollars, but it was out of necessity, not need or want. If she had it her way, Candace would've preferred to walk to work....perferred to be able to go out on her own...

But no, she was damn good at her job and that's why the city relied on her.

Candace new this case was going in her favor. The jury seemed extremely convinced, if not scared, to bring down Rossi Adolfo. It was literally an open and shut case...

But what she didn't know was that a hit had been taken out on Candice... her head worth $10 million.

She was in trouble and didn't even know it.

John Reese is an ex-CIA Special Operations Agent who had dropped off the face of the Earth. Nobody knew what happened to him... he just disappeared. He is officially listed as deceased. He now works for a man named Finch who has developed a machine that identifies people that are in trouble.... whose number has come up. Finch passes the information along to Reese who then has the task of saving the person.

Finch called Reese and told him he needed to get to the courthouse. Candace Lewis' number had come up.; Finch gave Reese all of the relevant background information. Reese saw Candace as she exited the building and walked toward a limo.

Reese saw him coming. as the large man approached Candace, Reese took out his weapon and fired one shot... hitting him just above the left eye. He walked over and took candace by the arm. "You need to come with me. You are in grave danger." He led her around the corner and into a car that he then hotwired. Candace asked a thousand questions as they drove.... Reese concentrated on making sure they were not being followed. He pulled up to an intersection and parked the car. They then walked two blocks to a safe house.

From what she could assume, they were only a few steps from the place Reese had mentioned they'd be safe when Candace stopped in her tracks, refusing to go any further...

She was still shaken up after seeing that man killed right in front of her, her voice was quivering but she tried her best to hide it, "OK, wait... you haven't answered any of my questions! Who are you and how did you know I was in trouble?!" Candace demanded...

"Would you like me to answer your questions or keep you safe?" Reeses said as he turned to look at Candace. He looked into her eyes and he could tell that she was not familiar with having someone speak to her in that way. She was someone who always seemed to be in control of the situation.

"You have two choices. The first is that you follow me and I lead you to a safe place where I will be more than happy to answer your questions. Your second choice is to stand here and be stubborn... expose yourself to further danger, and not have me answer anything. You have about 5 seconds to decide."

5 seconds? Candace thought as her mind raced. So far, her gut told her to believe him and go with him but yet...

"OK, fine.." she said and continued to walk with Reese. Soon, they were inside a small apartment, well, small by Candace's standards but still, it was better than nothing.

"How did you know that guy was coming after me?" Candace asked, still keeping a safe distance between herself and the man.

Reese closed the door and locked and deadbolted the door. "I have a way of knowing when people are in trouble. It is difficult to explain, just understand that I know you are in extreme danger, and I am here to help you stay alive."

Reese talked to Finch and let him know that he was able to get Candace to the safe house. Finch asked if Candace was willing to give up the case. Reese's response was that he hadn't broached the subject yet, but felt certain that Candace would never consider it.

With a huff, Candace shook her head, "This is unbelievable..." she muttered as she leaned against a wall and pulled her cellphone out of her pocket of her jacket and started to bring up some numbers.

She didn't get too far because as soon as she hit the second icon to call her office, her phone was snatched from her hand, "Excuse me?!"

Candace tried to reach for it but it was no use. She couldn't do anything but watch as he took the back off the phone, yanked out the SIM card and tossed it on the floor, crushing it with the heel of his foot.

"Was that really necessary? I was just going to contact the office to see if they knew anything about all this. Besides, I have a case I need to get back to soon and I'm sure if I tell the police everything, they will protect me..."

"Your office is well aware of what happened outside of the courthouse. My associate is monitoring communication from your office and from the police. These people want you dead. They have a high price on your head. You don't think they would be able to trace your call. In fact, the fact that your phone was on probably allowed them to get a GPS signal and figure out where we are. We are going to have to find another location."

Reese told Finch they were going to have to move. He let him know that Candace's phone had been on and there was a chance that they were able to trace it. He told Finch they were going to move to a new safe house down along the southside seaport.

"Candace, I know you are involved in the trial, but your head is worth $10 million. You are not going to finish the trial if you don't follow my directions."

"i can't believe this..." candace muttered. "how do i know youre not going to turn me in for the money too?"

"Ms. Lewis, trust me, if I was going to turn you in I would already have the money in my hand. I don't do this for money." Reese took Candace by the hand and led her down the steps and back to the street. They were going to have to move quickly.

Reese stopped in the doorway and looked up and down the street. He didn't see any threats, but he knew it was just a matter of time before the bad guys showed up. He noticed a delivery van double parked. He saw exhaust coming from the tail pipe of the van, so, Reese knew the van was running. He watched the delivery guy go inside a neighboring building.

He grabbed Candace's hand and led her out of the building. He told her to get in the van as he ran around and jumped into the driver's side. She no sooner had closed the door and they were off. Reese asking Finch for the location of the new safehouse.

The van ride could've been uncomfortable had Candace let it be...but she was lost in thought. Why had this happened? Killing her would gain nothing from the mob, if anything, the trial would've gone on no matter what...

This had to be Rossi Adolfo's doing. But why...?

Or his son, Marcus...

With a sigh, Candace didn't want to think anymore, she just wanted to be in the safety of her own home.

"Can we stop by my place so I can at least grab some things?" She looked down at her outfit, a matching wool skirt and jacket, heels and of course her purse. If there was one thing she loved, it was shopping.
