It's a rare day of rest for the small band of rebellious natives. No traveling to some corrupt Lord's estate to free his serfs, no plotting to overthrow and replace some distant tribes leader who was too harsh on his people-no, they were at rest today, sharpening blades, making arrows, sleeping.
Their small outpost of tents and fires was a favorite spot, surrounded by trees and nature. Leather armored and in various states of repose, only Sarai was out patrolling, bow on her back, leather armor and a cloak protecting her from the slightly drizzling elements here where the trees were thinner, less overhead protection.
She was five foot seven, taller than the other female warriors here, sharing their dusky, brownish skin tone with the red undertone to it, the vibrant blue eyes. Hers were a little icy looking, her dark hair wavy, pulled back into a ponytail at the moment. She was toned but thinner, more dancer like. She was an archer.
In the outpost, Ellen was reading a book. She was one of three literate of them, though she preferred stories to actually learning much. She was five feet even, petite, a boy shape with long, long black hair braided down the back of her tunic. Her twin brother slept in a hammock not far from her, his cloak hood pulled down over his eyes.
Three other women were here, one out of sight, another sparring with Andrew, a broad man wielding two practice swords-and the third playing with the wolfish looking dog that lived in these woods with them, at times.
These people were not entirely light hearted, however-even as they played, they wondered at their next march and mission, wondered what their leader was planning in their tent.
These people were warriors, economical and deadly when they felt the need, led by a fierce and fiery warrior who often, stories told, fought like a berserker.
