I'll be truthful and admit I'm a bit weak in the grammar department. Think of me as a piano player that can play songs by ear but not read music. I know what sounds good but when faced with something I'm not sure of I never guess but seek help. Just wondering if I can use you as a resource.

I have an idea. Maybe I'm not the only person that's trying to be a good editor yet lacking the conventional training. There seems to be threads for everything else... why not we start another thread, a potential sticky, about editor FAQs about other issues?

FAQ's already exist in this arena but may not answer these questions, not sure, maybe I need to research.

I've often thought the same. As usual, the devil would no doubt dwell in the details of the application, but the concept itself is a good one.

Lower case since it's ongoing; capitalized if it began a new sentence.

Check for Mercury toxicity

I am so sorry to her about your daughter's issues. My partner began experiencing fainting spells & seizures nearly 2 years ago & NONE of the doctors we went to could tell us why they began or how to make them stop. She had several "episodes" in front of the doctors but b/c all of her tests came up normal they chalked it up to anxiety or stress. One even said it was "conversion disorder" & that she was manifesting childhood abuse & trauma physically.

We knew that was bullshit but couldn't find anyone to believe us. She was having about 20 seizures per day. Then we found a doctor who was not in our medical plan. He is a kinesiologist who specializes in chiropractic medicine & mercury toxicity. It turns out that she had a tox level of 98% & that all of her inner organs were overloaded trying to cleanse her body of the mercury.

She doesn't eat fish of any kind, so we were stumped as to how she was so poisoned. He suggested that she have her amalgam (silver) fillings checked & we found out that more than 6 of her fillings were "leaking" & providing a direct link to her blood stream for the mercury.

Amalgam fillings are more than 50% mercury! Unfortunately, there is a lot of debate in the medical & dental community about the dangers of this issue. Here are a few websites with more information on the dangers of amalgam fillings:

We have since had all of her fillings replaced with porcelain ones & she has been seizure-free for the past 6 months!

If your daughter has any amalgam fillings, she may want to have them checked & replaced before her symptoms become worse.

I've often thought Lit could use an actual Style Guide, every publication or professional web site I've worked for has had one. It's the editor's bible.

Lit does have some great resources for writers (this one was especially helpful, about how to format your stories for publication).

A good Style Guide would, ideally, address all the basic questions about mechanics and keep everything consistent -- em-dash versus double hyphen, one or two spaces after sentences, etc. Even the question about numbers in another thread.

You see people I got up this morning and I was in a pretty good mood. I had slept well, my daughter didn't fall during the night and not even a migraine to start the day......AND THEN I get on here and read our dear friend Snooper's comment and my happiness at being alive and well blew up in my face.

So, since we're living in a democracy....I'm asking you all to tell me.....Was it really wrong to start this thread about your mood? Don't be shy, say the truth, say what you really think....good or bad I'll listen to it.

I think it is an essential question about writing and its process. For me, mood is essential, and so many things interfere (including mood) in the creative process, that having a question like mood being asked is really helpful. It gives a way - if not to actually vent, or write about it, to at least think about it.

And Lady C, about the epilepsy, I am surprised they have not checked earlier. They could be petit mal seizures: no shakes or quivers, but unconscious?

Not even in the same area code as wrong. Not all of human life revolves around the possessive case of gerunds. If anyone thinks it does, they can--in the words of my German grandfather--"laufen Sie in den Wald und piss herauf einen Eiche Baum."

Mood is essential! I multi-task, writing numeous stories at once, which is why I don't post often, but rather in flurries. Maybe I'm feeling sexy, so I write the 'porn' section of a story. If not, I switch to another story and write dialog. It seems I'm always writing 3-4 stories simultaneously.

This is how I operate, anyway. Maybe I'm not so unique after all.

As for LadyC, she knows I love her and my heart goes out to her.
