Reminds me of a movie: "Andy Warhol's Dracula." In that movie, Dracula could only drink the blood of virgins. But all the women he ran into CLAIMED to be virgins. So he would chomp on their neck, drink, and then go into convulsions, complaining about how "the blood of this whooooore is killing me!!"

Werewolves are (stereotypically male) the personification of... heh ...animal lust. It describes the passion of love. The werewolf can only have their animalistic furies ended by only one who truly loves them (by shooting them with a silver bullet). Silver being an example of purity.

Vampires (stereotypically male again) are another aspect of love. It describes the undying longing and unfulfilled love. You could also say that vampires are the embodiment of stalking but love from a distance. The "nobler" sense of love (quite the opposite to werewolves). The pursuit of one true love, this time by the male for the female and the extents men will go to to find one true love. They may sate their hungers on women that mean nothing to them, and how hollow they feel and how life means nothing to them.

In the case of the werewolves, that is proven of a woman who truly loves a man to care about his soul, and her willingness to kill him in spite of her love for him. In fact, she couldn't actually kill him if she didn't love him, so it is, in affect, proof of her love.

In the case of the vampire, a vampire is redeemed when they deny sating their hunger on one who freely offers up themselves to the vampire. So the vampire proves his love for the woman by not doing what he feels impulsed to do, even if it means his own demise.

In either case the male is killed, but the point is the emotional journey and who does the sacrifice. For the werewolf story, it is the woman, in the vampire story, it is the man/vampire.

In each, it simply shows how we approach love. Some passionately, others distantly but still filled with longing. In either story, both men are seeking an end to their primal nature.

What is the attraction? Simply, I think most people can relate to the different pursuits of love (by both sexes, which is why it appeals to both) and knowingly or unknowingly recognize the metaphors I described.

Edit: Those are all traditional vampire stories not ones made nowadays where the vampire makes his true love into a vampire too and they live undead happily ever after. Likewise for the werewolf.

You asked about "all these vampire and werewolf stories" I was talking about them, not a story of mine or the story the OP was cooking up. While I admit it is still a point of view, kindly don't allocate my point of view to the trash heap simply because my perspective delves into intricacies you might not have considered.

Now if you had asked about Frankenstein, I wouldn't have said that is anything about love but the association of the individual on the outskirts of society. Someone who is isn't accepted by society as a whole and is judged merely by appearance opposed to what they are.

That type of story ISN'T being rehashed a lot lately because not everyone sees themselves as a rebel.

You do realize this is nothing like the Hunger Games or Battle Royale right? Those two stories are at the core not hunting people but battles for survival with an underlying value from the Prisoner's Dilemma (Though Battle Royale had a fail safe encase anybody solved it. This is more similar to The Most Dangerous Game.

I apologize if I gave the impression that I was speaking of any of your stories. And again if I came across as being dismissive of your point of view. Your view is your view, and you are entitled to it.

But I still think you're over-analyzing it, but then I have a far simpler view of the world. Occam's Razor, and all that...

I think the vampire theme is popular particularly with the ladies because it's the story of the girl taming the "bad boy", and what woman doesn't long to do that?

As for werewolves? That's the ultimate Dom, the pure animal that takes what he wants when he wants it, whether you're willing to give it or not. More "bad boy" syndrome. Again, what woman doesn't secretly harbor a fantasy about being taken roughly "against her will" (but not really) by pure animal lust?

As for why men are attracted to the roles? That's even simpler: the vampire can exercise hypnotic erotic power over any woman he chooses; the werewolf gets to run naked through the woods, howl at the moon, and take any woman he sees by sheer power.

You may be right according to the literary exegesis that has been put forward through the years, but I prefer the simpler motivations.

None of which changes the fact that I think the themes have been overdone to death. It's been done, and done again, and done yet again. Let's move on, for God's sake...
