The World of Cricket

but licensed gambling has India as the favourites.

If they have India as favourites, they're damn fools. And I'm an India fan! Thanks to Tendril for her participation. At least there is one beautiful woman in the world showing an interest in cricket.

Thanks SSGuy:)
We even a Kiwi record set by Shane Bond when they were beaten by Australia on Tuesday night.,his 6 wickets for 23 runs was fantastic !

Yes New Zealand played well. Australlia rose to the challenge though. That's why I think they should win the cup. The Kiwis gave them a good fight and they just weren't having any of it.

Yes the Kiwis snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in that game !!

I'm off to soak in the tub...g'nite

I used to think cricket was such a slow boring game until the 1992 World Cup which NZ hosted (I'm a kiwi too - hi tendril :) ). My then 8 yr old son used to sit in front of the TV for hours and watch the games....and so I watched them with him and slowly came to grips with the rules  Now cricket is the only game I have much of an interest in....though like Ladybird I prefer the one day format. Five days of poodling a ball around in a test match.....I just can't seem to get to grips with the finer points of that ;) :D

In the days when cricket was on free to air TV we used to stay up till after midnight watching the World Series in Australia - it was part of our summer ritual! Now my son is away at uni but I still have fond memories of a little curly haired boy working out batting averages and runs required per over in his head.......:)

Kenya has shocked the world by qualifying for the semi-finals of the world cup.

You have got to love the Kenyan's, they have really jazzed up the Cricket World in this tournament. They came in ranked 11th (ahead of only Namibia, the Netherland and Canada) and have done a splendid job so far. Even their loss to India was a going well until Ganguly tore them apart.

Well, now they get to meet Oz in game that doesn't mean much, then it is India (again in the semis).

OK, dare I think this...what if Kenya wins it all? ... Actually, better yet, what if Kenya wins by beating NZ in the final. Poetic justice? (For the uninitiated, NZ chose not to travel to Kenya for their first round fixture with the Kenyan team.)

A nice thought, but I can't see Kenya getting through India in their semi. India has really rounded into form quite nicely. Tendulkar just keeps on chugging, and their other batsmen aren't to shabby either. Kenya has a few good players, but depth only develops with time. One thing is for sure though, I'll bet Kenya are approved to play test cricket very soon!

Plus I can't see New Zealand getting past Australiia. Sorry kiwis. :)

You knew there would be fallout from the Shane Warne drug scandal. It looks like changes are coming to the system. If you want to read about it click here .

SSGuy......neither can i see the Aussies going down to us Kiwis.....I mean, lets be real, the Aussies RULE !

Sixes

One of my fondest cricket memories is of Ian Botham stealing a match from the Aussies, with a succession of 6s in the last over.

Boy so we need him now!

I lusted after Ian Botham BIG TIME !

You all really should watch a real cricket game - A test match.

Yeah Yeah so there 5 days long - but how many five days tests did Australia play this past summer, that actually laseted 5 days!!

NO many. I'm not a stats person and dont have a particulalry god memory for trivia - but if u understand cricket then watch a test match and stick it out,,,,,,, for the duration.

And yet the one day game is a great spectical and the world champs have been good for cricket..

besided the fact that Australia are gunna win, lookat Canada, Zimbabwe, Kenya , Holland etc, (the 'B' teams- ouch not my term) Great to see them play and play well.

Oh and NO I dont maind at all that the Pakkies and afrikans are out......

Hey, I call it like it is. These teams could beat a lot of what I would call the "c" countries, but seriously, does anybody see my precious Canada competing against the big boys? As for Kenya, they just continue to shock. I'll bet the feeling they have is that they have already won as far as their world cup goes, no pressure the rest of the way.

You all really should watch a real cricket game - A test match.

They don't ever put test cricket on TV in Canada, not even on pay-per-view. I might never get to see one. I think the one-day format is great for bringing fans into the game. Let's face it, it takes a serious attention span to sit through a five day game.

I hate to rub it in, Kiwis, but it looks like big trouble for you now. India wins again and continues to look very good. You know with every passing day, an India/Australlia final sounds better and better. You had India at 9/2 and let it slip away!

Now Zimbabwe must Defeat Sri Lanka or New Zealand is done. If Sri Lanka wins, they move on. Looking at the New Zealand innings, the two ducks at the top of the order are awful glaring. Why is it India's bowling gets so good when it counts and is so bad when it doesn't?

WHERE ARE ALL THE FRICKIN' BRITISH PEOPLE? Why is a thread on cricket being run by a Canadian and a couple of Kiwis?

:)

Meybe it would help if I gave a clearer picture of what I personally wanted out of this thread. Of course discussing any aspect of the game is very welcome here. But as my own knowledge of cricket is somewhat limited, especially about players of years gone by, I was hoping I could hear from the fans about their favourite players/matches/era ect. In short a history lesson of the game between erotica sessions. :)

To give you an idea of how limited my knowledge of the history of the game is, I shall list all the players I can think of who are not currently playing.

1- Kappel Dev
2- Donald Bradman
3-Geoffrey Boycott

That's it! :)

Lead the way, teach. ;)

Well a quick starter okay ?
Here in NZ the golden days of cricket were the early to mid 80's. We had some fabulous players then, ones that could turn a game around singlehandedly. Richard Hadleigh comes to mind straight away as he's an all rounder. Glen Turner, a great top order batsman who played English county cricket in out off season.

Btw....the ESPN I watch here in NZ by satellite has been running a great series called Legends of Cricket, that included Richard Hadleigh.

Geoff Boycott - couldn't rememember his name yesterday . one of the greats. H e has to be the slowest openeing batsman off all time - but (and maybe cos he's English) he is well remembered and favorably thought of..........and that makes him Great!!!

Hey SSG
What about the Aussie that plays for Canada - Anderson, isn't it.

Just recuirt a few more like him and Canada will be the Kenya of 2007..

Catch of the World Cup? By guess Brett Lee Catch off his own bowling, against England if my memeory serves me.

Watching Z V Sri Lanka right now - not tlooking good for the Kiwi's.... sorry tendril.

Oh an by the way tendril , if your given lessens (of any kind) I am definately interested......... :rose: :rose:
