A wave of Cesar Chavez events have been canceled at the last minute after “profoundly shocking” claims of sexual abuse came to light — and insiders warn it could just be the tip of the iceberg. The late civil rights icon, who became one of the most celebrated labor leaders in US history, has been accused of “abusing young women or minors,” the union he co-founded revealed on Tuesday.

The United Farm Workers and Cesar Chavez Foundation said they were shelving marches in the Golden State honoring him after they were made aware of the disturbing allegations. Insiders hinted the explosive allegations — the details of which have yet to be released — had been been a long time coming. Enos Flores, a longtime member of the labor movement, told the San Antonio Express-News: “When I saw that article, the first thing that flashed in my head was ‘the jig is up’.”

A statement read: “We have become aware of disturbing allegations that Cesar Chavez engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with women and minors during his time as President of the United Farm Workers of America.”

Prove it. But just to add a little context for the time period in question. In the state of Virginia the legal minimum age for marriage in the 1700s was Girls: 12 years old, Boys: 14 years old. Survival was hard, and there were no safety nets.

Yes, but it’s his own organization cancelling these events. The United Farm Workers isn’t doing that without a reason. The question is why: do they have access to information that hasn’t been made public yet? Or, do you think his anti-illegal alien stances back in the day, his use of the word "wetbacks" when referring to illegals who were used as strike breakers, have become politically inconvenient for the left? Or, is there real evidence turned up by the #Metoo movement that has just come to light? Either way, cancellations like this usually reflect internal judgment calls based on information or risk the public hasn’t fully seen yet.

Bombshell rape accusations against revered labor leader Cesar Chavez were revealed on Wednesday, a day after celebrations in his name were canceled across California.

A report from the New York Times detailed accounts from multiple women, two of whom said they were children when Chavez began sexually abusing them.

Ana Murguia claimed the abuse started when she was just 13, while Debra Rojas said she was first assaulted at 12 and later raped at 15.

Their claims are supported by interviews, documents, and people they confided in over the years, according to the investigation.

In a stunning revelation, longtime activist Dolores Huerta — Chavez’s closest ally — also alleged he sexually assaulted her, a claim she had never previously made public.

She described an incident in 1966 and said she later bore two of his children, which she kept secret.
