Thieves Among Us-Closed

He had known instantly when she had awoken, but had kept his breathing even and natural. He never really needed sleep at night and had only fallen into the habit to keep up his disguise, but reflexes sharpened by many years never went away.

He could tell exactly where she was and what she was doing by smell, and hearing alone, although not precisely. He knew she was gathering her things and trying not to wake him, but she kept stopping and looking his way an awful lot.

Finally she took the blanket off the bed and covered him up before going to her own room. Once he heard the door close, Phillip opened his eyes and smiled. Going to the bed he laid down and inhaled deeply, taking in her scent and allowing it to flow through him.

He wanted her, badly, but it would have to wait. He had promised her that he would help her on her quest and to do that she must still be human. It would not be right of him to turn her in the jungle. Besides he had promised to make his proposal something memorable and he planned to fulfill her wish.

He again closed his eyes and rested until he felt the sun rise, then got up and washed before dressing in casual adventuring attire. Moving in the early morning while the shadows were long would be better.

He knocked on her door and hearing a muffled reply walked in to find her up and waiting for him. Smiling he looked at all the work she had spread out before her and nodded. "Hard at work I see. Well you have held up your side and I have done mine. We have a guide willing to lead us to where we need to go. I have only given him vague references, never tell them exactly where you are going or they will send another party ahead to try and get your treasure," he smiled. "They are arranging for food, equipment, porters and transport out of the advance I gave them last night. Wee are to meet them in," he said glancing down at his watch, "Two hours near the airport. Just enough time to grab some breakfast and then a cab."

Offering her his arm he gestured towards the door. "Shall we my dear?"

Her first thoughts when he walked in dressed in his adventure attire, was that he looked like a character from one of her treasure seeking adventure books. "If your guide insists on the straight forward approach, you're going to have to object. Noone that has ever tackled it that way has come back to leave notes. The explorer that has made it the furthest and made it back, took this path." Holding up the map she pointed to the red line she placed.

"His reason for returning was that he ran out of supplies and most of his men had deserted him over superstitions and curses. According to my research, he had attempted to do it again, but couldn't find anyone willing to go with him. It's possible that we'll run into that again. However between the two of us we're a bit more skilled in survival then the average person."

Folding up the map carefully she put it in her bag and began to pile up the books and materials she had gathered. Tying them with twine she dropped them off at their hotels desk to be messenger-ed back to the explorers society. The problem with being in a different country, is they often had different cultures with food. One had to be careful in what they chose to eat, or it would turn their bodies against them.

With breakfast over and a quick stop back to the hotel to get their belongings they were on their way to the airport. She was so excited to be exchanging rooftops for the Jungle, and finally going to uncover the treasure that had been just out of her reach. "I have a feeling" she said lightly to him over the roar of the plane engine. "A couple of them aren't too thrilled for a woman to be on this trip"
