Third Annual Masquarade

Uncle Sam (Thor)

Don't you have your characters a bit confused? Or is that just one more thing I don't understand tonight?

I swear, I should be Alice, chasing the White Rabbit, for I fear that I have stepped through the looking glass.

I listened to her speaking......under her breath, the words obviously meant only for herself.

'Perhaps you should be Alice, indeed, Ms Liberty" "For, after all, the immortal words of Alice ring in my ears.......'if you do not know where you are going, any road will do...'

I smiled, behind my mask as Lady Liberty jumped at my softly spoken words.....

As she turned, I held a fresh glass of the absolutely perfect Sauvignon Blanc.....chilled to perfection, the pale amber liquid looking smoky through the beads of moisture that coated the delicate crystal.

'Perhaps we patriotic folk might share a glass of nectar?" I asked.....my eyes twinkling.

My fingers glide over the string, like angels on ice. I was playing a slow beautiful song, mournful in a way. I finish looking up noticing people are dancing to it, I grin lightly some thing I havn't done in a long time. I start in to a faster meledoy more happy, joyful, quick beat. I get up and start moving quickly to the music tapping my foot.
It's old fashioned music, quick ones that would do nice with a fiddle, and a fife or two but it's great nevertheless. I really get in to the music my head bent dancing about in a light way my foot sending the beat throughout the room.
I stop with the last loud note my figners strumming roughly against it. I smile slightly my eyes deepening as I strap my mandolin on to my bakc once again, walking to a wall and leaning against it waiting for some body to ask for more. A great minstrel hooks his adduence then reels them in.

Liberty

He had startled her, she had not heard him approach.

Perhaps I should be careful about the potions I drink while in Wonderland too.

Grace replied with a smile. She was pleased that he didn't think her silly.

Or maybe I should just enjoy the evening and the company of a gentleman. I would be pleased to share a drink with you, but tell me, shall I call you Abe or Sam? Uncle is out of the question I'm afraid.

I glanced at the minstrel and toasted him, "Very nice talent you have there Sir. Perhaps another melody soon?" I turned in my chair a little to face him better, standing just a few feet from me he did seem rather tall?
A movement at the door caught my eye and I noticed a new arrival.. A servant? I chuckled and sipped my wine.

The Minstrel

I smiled bowing low, loving this role more and more. my eyes kindled as they had not been for a logn tiem still brooding though. I smiled slightly my lips curving at the ends jsut enough.
"Why My'Lady how could I refuse such a beauty?" I said it with an easily made English accent. I started playing again a slow, and subtle melody my fingers grazing the strings. I was assorbed again though my eyes comign up twinkling to the beauty ever once in a while.

I reclined back in the chair a little further, my eyes falling closed as I listened to the haunting mellody. IT gave me chills and I smiled faintly, listening without interruption as he play.
Pulling my feet up, I placed them on the foot rest before me, setting my wine glass down on the arm of the chair. Entrancing music, he had a gift in those fingertips.
I listened until the last note echoed. Opening my eyes I smiled a little more and thanked him quietly.
"Beautiful.. how long have you played if I may ask?"

Minstrel

I finished and looked back up. As I heard her question my eyes returned to normal filled with brooding sadness. I shook my head feelign the light wind against my hair. I set my teeth in a slight smile returning to character.
"You may, though that doesn't mean I'll tell you. Though I consider my gazing upon you payment enough." He thought for a moment giving the true answer. "Around twenty seasons, I started at nothing but fifteen seasons though I played before that but I wouldn't call that playing." I smiled, and added. "Then again the deaf man across the street seemed to like it."

Heather/ Librarian

I smiled again, "A quick learner, that is an advantage." I chuckled softly at his story, only imagining what kind of music he played before now?
"Would you care to dance with the wall flower?" I asked sweetly. I could not sit another moment in this corset, it was pushing up on my chest so tightly, I felt I could not breath. Not to mention it was getting hot in here rather quickly. Or was it me? I did not know, but it was a perfect setting to get to know him a little better. Of course without breaking any of the rules.

Scarecrow

I smile as music feels the room from the minstrel. I let my foot tap to the beat. Even though I sing in a heavy metal band I like the classical music as well. I look down in suppress as the harem girl pools me out in to the dance. I move with her easily looking down in to her dutiful eyes.

"Thank you for dancing with me."

“The plesher is all my mine.” I say to her comment my eyes moving over her barley covered body aprishetivly.

I twirl her arund before dipping her low my eyes fixit on her exposed cleavage as her head falls back a grin on her face. I lift her up and we move agene over the dance floor.

She intrigued him.

He moved, graceful and quiet, more so than what seemed for the costume that kept his shame hidden. His feet against the soft carpeting, easing him from one side of the room to the other.

A fire goddess, if he had ever seen one. The costume accented every part of her, and from what he could see, there was a lot of her to accent.

He held the door for her, bowing slightly, "Welcome. I believe most of the guests are already in the room, waiting for everyone else."

His accent hung thick in the air, but he cared not. This woman intrigued him, and the look in her eyes was too wild for him to give up just that easily.
He raised his arm to her, "Mind if I escort you?"

Slowly walking around the edge of the room I watched as they loosened up and started to talk and dance. I loved watching people enjoy themselves. It was amazing what a little mask could do. It hid all your inhibitions.
Violet still had the grace of a cat, her body slipping through the notes of the music like she was born to it.
The others, all of them with their own grace.
Uncle Sam, darling one. Charming the ladies with his wit and word. She better watch out or she woudl find herself voting his way.
Hearing someone behind me I turn, and there is our servant. I reach out and touch his arm.

"Hello, I am merelan. Would you fetch me a fresh drink. The bartender knows what I drink." By now the staff was in waiting also, my need for breaking the ice and using Thor done. Turning my head away, hoping he would comply without argument, and knowing he wasn't use to being ordered.

Fire Goddess

Kaylie raised her chin high, her eyes meeting those of the caveman waiting to escort her. She saw passion and fire within those eyes as one would dream of in a European lover.

She took his elbow, blatantly peering over his smooth, olive skin and fine physique.

Her thoughts wandered toward the exotic. She, with so many kinks and so little time, had not been with a man in months.

Her eyes glistened as she slid her free hand slid down his naked, smooth chest.

Her deep chuckle could only be heard by him. Her eyes sparkled playfully.

"I have always been a lover of the romance languages. "

As quickly as she began teasing, she raised her head, posturing herself as nobility might and said, "Shall we go, then?"

Queen Violet

I notice pairs happening and stroll to a chair to rest my feet for a moment. I sip my wine and take in all the costumes. The scholar and minstrel catch my eye as well as all the lovely ladies. Only Merelan could have a scarecrow dancing in same room as Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty.

Harem Girl

As we continue dancing, I see more couples joining us. The scarecrow was smiling as we were dancing. "Is this your first time here?" I ask as we dance.

Looking around on all the beautiful ladies, Merelen and the Queen. Now I see Lady Liberty, she just lights up a room. "Don't the ladies look so beautiful? Merelen did so well with the customes."

We dance until the music stop. The minstrel plays so well, I could listen to him all night. "Please excuse me, I need to get a drink. Care to walk over with me to get one?"

Scarecrow

“Yes this is my first time to this party.” I look around at the ladies as the Harem Girl takes my arm leading the way to the drinks.

“And I have to admit that every one hear is most butiful.” I chuckle softly as I look at the drinks trying to decide what I would like.

I look down at her smiling wormly “I take it this is not your first time at this party.” I chuckle as I finally set ill on a drink sipping it slowly savoring the taste.

"No, this is my first party too. I still can't believe I am here." Still wondering about everyone. Are we here for a reason or for fun.

"Your custom is cool. I wasn't to sure about mine, well what there is of it," laughing as I said that. "I hope the party goes on a long time. Feels like it would be alot of fun."

"Lets take a walk over to the minstrel, to see if he would play again."

The Servant

"Hello, I am Merelan. Would you fetch me a fresh drink? The bartender knows what I drink."

"Huh?" He turned his head, a little confused. Was she talking to him? Almost immediately it struck him. The costume. He grinned. That was funny. But she seemed serious. He wasn't used to being ordered around, but whereas it would probably usually anger him, he thought it was a nice touch for the evening.

Besides, he was not one to do things halfway. He had accepted being the servant, and a servant he would be. He gave a light bow. "Of course, M'lady."

And off he moved. To the bar, he told himself. As always, his unerring sense of direction led him to the bar. That, and the fact that it was a little difficult to miss. He quickly got the drink for his gypsy/hostess, and hesitated for a moment at the bar, thinking how good a drink would be. He tore himself away with a grin.

No. How would it look to be caught drinking on the job? He chuckled to himself, and easilly worked his way back through the party to where Merelan, did she say, was waiting. He gave a deeper bow, holding out the drink for her.

"Your drink, M'lady. Can I get you anything else?"

Liberty

Grace sipped her wine and listened to the music. She desperately hoped that she would be asked to dance soon. She dearly loved to dance but seldom had the opportunity. Most of the parties she attended were related to business and those seldom included dancing. When she was selected to move about a cleared dance floor she never knew it if it was her or the daughter of a powerful businessman that was being courted. It seemed to take the pleasure out of the music and the company. That was one of the reasons that this party had so excited her. Tonight, she was no ones daughter, she was just Liberty.

She smiled as an idea occurred to her. She could do anything she wanted tonight. She could be liberated and free. Could even be bold; with that thought in mind she turned to the tall man in the Uncle Sam costume.

Sir, would you care to dance?

The Minstrel

Hrmmmm liked the libarian costume, it invited you just by pushign you away. Very nice indeed, though I doubt that would happen at the best ball of your life, then again.
I listenend to her words smiling lightly. I dropped the accent a little bit wishing to say some thing out of character.
"Yes, well I guess a librarian like your self doesn't get to dance much? Never the less it's a great costume, I like costumes that leave more to the imagination instead of less." I chuckled lightly then got up bowing returning to my role. "I would love to, M'dear." I glanced about seeing, a scarecrow and the beautiful harem girl aproaching. I turn back to the wonderful librarian smiling a bit, saying a little louder but not much just so the coupel could here me.
"Though I think sombody would have to take over the music, lest we have a angry mob on our hands."

Heather

I smiled as I rose from the chair, "Let them figure that out, there is music playing softly in the back ground." I caught the eye of one of the servers strolling around the ballroom.
"Will you turn up the music for us please?" The servant smiled, bowed her head and moved to a pannel in the wall. Opening it up, she dimmed the lights just slightly and turned up the music.
"Shall we?" I held out my arm to the minstrel. I liked his smile, his softly spoken words and those eyes behind the mask. Easy going and interesting as well. Someone I could talk with without any worries. Course he had no idea who I was, and I grinned brightly. Soon the hair would come down and the shirt would open a little more, revealing that underneath it all.. the spit fire was still alive and kickin'.
I moved out to the dance floor, turning and moving fully against him. "Enjoy a slow dance every now and then.. how about you?"

Queen Violet

(for the ease of the mind's eye please put your costume in the post subject area)

It was a delight to behold such ploys lurking about. I watched as the mistrel got to dance and lingered upon what now felt like a throne. Nothing seemed easy tonight, which of all nights should be care free. I knew each of them was escaping from their life, and I was returning to a life long thought gone.

I returned to the bar for a glass of port, and watched each one intently sizing up what lay hidden. Uncle Sam was undoubtedly some sort of politician, Lady Liberty a trophy wife or daughter, Harem girl shy reserved, Librarian reckless perhaps, the Servant was one who was used to giving orders, the Scholar probably one who spent more time on mental challenges than sexual pleasures. The barbarian was probably one who wore suits and was very polished and civilized. I figured the fire goddess as a diamond in the rough type that would shine under the right conditions. The scarecrow puzzled me as did the minstrel. Merelan's gypsy was so true to her inner spirit, I wondered if she even knew how she shined as a free spirit.

(this is also a quick review of who I recall being in attendance....I recall a Dorothy but do not think she has arrived?)

Calista..aka...Dorothy

Thank GOD! for the six girls at the salon. What I would have done without them was beyond me.
Five of them worked at curling my long auburn hair while the sixth worked her magic with make-up....two things I had never been good at. A soft sigh slipped passed my lips while the little blue bow was clipped into my hair at the crown, a sparkle of something I didn't recognise lighting my blue eyes.
"There you go Calista, now you best be on your way before you are any later to wherever it is you are going tonight...."
"Oh my thank you girls" I left them a hearty tip with the payment and left quickly. It had taken too much time already and by the time I got into my costume and called the cab I was very late.

The ride there seemed long and a time or two I felt as though I should just turn around and go back home. This was as far out of my league as I could get.
I watched the scenery pass by out the window and softly asked the cab driver to stop at the end of the drive. Raising my hand and paying him the money silenced his protest.
I slipped from the cab and watched him pull away. Butterflies swirled in my stomach as I realized that there was no turning back now. Thoughts of what tonight would bring, increasing my nervousness and my lack of attention and soon I found myself half way up the drive.
"Alright Calista...this is a party, no one will know who you are. NOW go and have a good time..." I muttered the words softly over and over to myself, feeling more sure of the decision to come with each passing step
On the front step I smoothed out what little there was to my little blue skirt, checked my mask to be sure it was secure and glanced down at the ruby slippers on my feet. For the slightest moment i wondered how everyone else was dressed, but that thought was scattered to the four corners when the door was opened.
A man I could only assume was the butler was standing there urging me in out of the cold, and I myself being a little chilled hurried in. I could not believe I was late! Had it not been for the butler's hand on my upper arm showing me in to where the rest were gathered I would have run back ou the door.
I think I stopped fighting against his grip when the room came into view and the variety of people and costumes came to my view. I stood still...speechless for a moment, then quietly thanked the man and ordered a glass of wine from the bar.
Sitting there I sipped the wine and watched the goings on around me. This was far more than I had anticipated...

Michael watched as the women dance, sipping a little drink as he did. His lips touching the alcohol, savoring the cool liquid as it trickled down his throat. The atmosphere of the entire room had changed as soon as the music began. He watched in awe as the nervousness turned to genuine charm and a regal for the flair.
Inhibitions losing themselves in the melody.
He watched a woman, someone new come up to pick a glass of wine. She looked very cute, especially in the outfit gotten for her.
Letting the robe shift in a slight manner, he spoke to her, "A wonderful costume, very... very elegant in its simplicity. What is it?"

merelan

Turning back to him and taking the glass, a twinkle in my eye.
"No, nothing for now. Enjoy yourself." Winking.

Dorothy had entered, and wow, was that skirt short. I hadn't seen it on anyone before sending it to her. She had the legs for it though. But even now was tugging at it. Conscious of what she was showing.
Wandeirng through them I touched and arm here, a back there, listening to the light conversation, the music.
Then the gong.

The music slowly dropped in level and I spoke.

"Dinner is ready my friends. I have been smelling it all afternoon, and am ravenous." Letting them pause and getting their attention.

"Minstrel, would you please escort our Librarian to dinner, Scarecrow, guide our harem girl, we wouldn't want to lose her." Smiling as she blushed, all eyes on her.
"Uncle Sam, our Lady Liberty, of course, Sir Scholar, could you help our latest guest Dorothy?" She too blushed as people turned and eyed her. She was delightful to watch.

"Our Barbarian can provide for our Goddess of Fires, and our servant for our Violet Queen." Watching them pair up.

"There that settles you all. Can't you just smell all that food?"

Leading the way into the huge dining room and helping them settle around the U shaped table. Making sure they all had their places and nodding to the servants, waiting to fill their drinks. Large glasses of fresh water available for them too, sipping from mine. I was odd man out, but was used to that, this way I could concentrate on them, and their beauty, their dance of the evening as I had called it in the past.
Their drinks filled I stood and raised a glass high.

"To our host who is here in spirit. May this night bring your pleasures, dreams fulfilled and a renewed sense of life, living, and love." Tossing it back in one shot. A whispered prayer to myself as I finished.

instantly the servants were bringing in the platters of food. Piled high and hot. All their favorite dishes being offered to each, and then passed along if others were interested.

Heather/ Librarian

I followed the minstrel out to the floor and stopped when the gong sounded.
"Well shoot.. Perhaps after dinner?" I smiled appologeticly to him and took his arm as Merelan directed. Smiling, she was very beautiful tonight, and a little more of her was shining through this year. She was the hostess without fear of being watched carefully. I smiled again as we strolled inside the dining room. Still elegant and grand and recently redone as well. I sat at the end of the table, unbuttoning a few buttons on the long skirt to sit comfortably.
I watched the new arrivals with interest, the Dorothy costume was risque, daring and positively adorable. Reminded me of one I once wore. Chuckling, I picked up my glass and toasted with the rest of them. A sad moment of the party, wondering if there would be another year or not now?
No time for gloominess, I would make a point to visit with Merelan after dinner and see how she was fairing in all of this? The platters brought out and again my favorite dish set before me. I smiled and whispered to Merelan, "Someone's been peeking lately.." I winked at her and studied the smoked salmon fillet, wild rice in herb sauce and the asparagus steamed to perfection.
She never ceased to amaze me, she honestly didn't. The time and care she put into this for each guest, made you feel loved.
I got a few curious glances now and then, my costume not nearly as grand as the others, simple as well. But it fit me I thought, it certainly left alot to the imagination. Course the Queen's gown was just as confining, yet the lines sexy and the material for some reason look sinful. I thought as I investigated my plate. Even the harem girl's costume his just enough to tease, I enjoyed myself way too much here. I laughed softly again and turned to the minstrel, "Are you enjoying your evening so far?"
