9 of the top 10 States when it comes to taking social/financial support from the US Federal government are red states. The 10th is New Hampshire. When Reagan made that banal statement it was 10/10.
The social and economic structures of Conservative America would disintegrate without federal financial support, put in place largely by Democrat Federal governments. That support has been in place since 1932 and GOP politicians would go ape if a cent was removed. What they want - what they always want, is to keep all the money but remove any accountability whatsoever.

The qualifications for welfare don't let you sustain anything.. they haven't for a long while.....you need to prove that you need it and that you're actively working to get yourself into a better situation.

First of all, these measures were introduced through Congress by both political parties and are regularly sustained/renewed by both parties through Congressional budgetary mechanisms, so blaming the Bureaucracy achieves nothing except identifying a convenient whipping boy. More to the point, how would you amend the Welfare bill, bearing in mind that reductions will hurt Conservative voters more than Democrat voters.
