i didn't say we shouldn't have laws,,i said i hated the justice system..
and yeah..she hurt many people..the effects trickle down to most everyone who invests

my point was..even them small investers cheat..

like small taxpayers cheat...

only those who get caught pay the price..and all of us have broken laws be it speeding or insiders trading..

the system fails in a huge way, that was my only point.

i asked the question doll..did she intentionally hurt others? no where did i imply she didn't

you so mis understood that.

no worries i'm leaving, sorry to have poked my nose in here.

cheers!

It is amazing to me just how many people do not think she did anything wrong.
The argument that others do the same thing is horseshit. So what? That does not mitigate her culpability. She lied to the Feds over nothing. THe were not even going after her in the first place. They were after Sam Waxell. She was just plain stupid.
My personal opinion is that she deserved the full sentence of 16 months in jail. Not because she is Martha Stewart. Because she broke the fucking law for no good reason.

In most cases like hers, she actually is not the one to suffer the consequences of her actions. Thru all of these cases one thing has stood out like a sore thumb. It is the little person, the one that has lost maybe everything that they have spent a lifetime working for that loses.

I say that anyone caught should do the full sentence of what the law would allow, and everything that they own, their wives own, the companies that they work for owns should be sold at auction to make sure that the people that have lost so much regain some of it.

Not a perfect plan but at least that would make me feel a little better about it all.

Of course she did something wrong! Do others? Absolutely! She's been a scape-goat for all the MEN who have controlled our economic sytem for eons without being 'caught. Does she deserve to be punished? Yes! But I say take all the others with her...

Circle this date. I have absolutely no idea how to respond to this.
It is not possible to make an intelligent assesment of this statement.
I apologize. I thought this would be a fairly straightforward question, but for the nebulous "man keeping woman downtrodden" argument to be brought into this, has bewildered me.
This thread can die now.

Die now??? NO! I was just jerking everyone's chain a bit...seems I succeeded!

I'll take it back if it means the thread lives on!

You misunderstand me. Every time I hear that crap about male dominance in the business world, it sets my blood to boiling. That is so damn demeaning to every woman. It is the same as saying that you can not do anything without someone elses help. You cannot do it on your own.
I happen to know a great many women that take umbrage at that. These are women that stand on their own, not asking for a damn thing from anyone. They have made it by themselves and are proud of it. And not a single one of them thinks Martha Burke is anything more than a bitch looking for power. Case in point.
Masters Tournament, 2003.
Augusta National is predjudiced because they do not invite women to play in the Masters. Not one word about how the LPGA has never invited a man to play at any time. Where is the fairness?
I do not like weak people, male or female. If you are not willing to work hard and EARN your way to the top, do not expect any sympathy from me.
If you work your ass off and you need a hand, then I am here for you. Uncompromisingly. But never play the gender card.

This will be my last post on this thread.

I happen to agree with luvsyounger on this one. I personally think that the gender card is like some of the other cards that are being played every day....tired and old.

I prefer much to stand on my own two feet and do things on my own. That way any reward that I reap I know that I have earned and the same with respect. I want it because I earned it thru hard work and making solid decisions, not because I am a woman.

My comments were intended in an historical context...not to demean any woman's current hard work and ambition. I am one of those women you're refering to...I stand on my own, and never ask for a damn thing from anyone. I have made it by myself and I'm very proud of it. I work hard and I have earned every bit of success I have. Unfortunately, had my grandmother wanted to do that...she would not have been able.

OK...enough of that...truce!

Rove and Wolfowitz and...

"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a facist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."
