1) It just occurred to me: should I have been posting questions about how the site works for authors, and how the forum works, on the "How To..." forum all this time?

2) For people who frequently illustrate what they are talking about on the forum, like me, is there a way to upload pictures on the forum and designate that they appear as a clickable thumbnail instead of a big, spammy thing filling everyone's screens whether they care about the picture or not?

For example, something that looks like this...

...is less disruptive to an ongoing conversation than something that looks like this...

Personally, I view the "How-To" threads as more "How to pee with a hard on" type posts rather than those focused on the authors' experiences on the site or within the forums.

As far as the thumbnail issue, I think it should depend on what you are trying to depict or what interactive goal you might have with the image.

IMO, no. The "How To..." forum seems like a catch-all for questions about sex and relationship issues, not questions about writing about sex and relationship issues so much. You could ask there if you wanted to but you're more likely to get good, or at least relevant, advice here.

When I put a picture on the text box on my computer, I can resize it by clicking on the corner and dragging it smaller (or, hypothetically, bigger). There's also a pop-up menu when I click on it to make it left-aligned, right-aligned, or centered, to manually set the size, and a few other things. It's harder to do so when commenting from my phone but I guess there might be some way.

I have only posted questions here and find that people are always willing to help.

SOrry, can't help you with that.

Testing now. Please mostly ignore this post.

I've used it more than a few times for technical how to questions, and have usually gotten answers. Other people do too. Until we get a forum that is clearly for that purpose, I'll continue to do so, although I also occasionally post tech questions in AH.

I think you can if you attach the image.

Yes! That worked exactly the way I needed.

Now that the how part has been solved, I'll address the rest.

In the OP, the advantage of uploading a tiny image (like the 300 pixel wide example) is that it is not as disruptive as a big image might be. The downside of the tiny image is that it is very hard to read. The test image I posted later in the conversation is both: small and non-disruptive, as well as easy to read for those who click on it.

CalBishForNow's advice worked perfectly.

When you shrink an image using the method he suggested, it will revert to its original size when you click it. It is also only one additional step to how I was uploading pictures to the forum previously.
