Life seemed to be heading in the right direction for Belinda. She had just picked up the keys to a new house with Dean her boyfriend, or rather a long term partner. They had been together for 5 years, the longest relationship she had held down. Being together for that long had led her to think that settling with a house would be the best way forward. After eight months of searching she had finally convinced Dean that this was the house for them.
An old detached property, six bedrooms over three floors, a large garden, driveway and a conservatory. The price was at the top end of their comfort zone and a lot of work needed to be done to turn this into a comfortable modern home. The space had been a big draw as had the potential profit in the resale if they chose to split or move on. Belinda was taking no chances.
There was plenty of space to combine both of their homes into this one house, making moving expensive but less painful as neither had to part with any items. At the end of a tiring day they had both collapsed in a heap in the lounge, waking the next morning to the sound of Dean’s alarm.
Dean had work, and although tired and a little grumpy he dressed and headed out leaving Belinda to unpack a few boxes and begin to settle in. She unpacked putting everything in its place. Being left alone meant she could ‘pack’ some items out of sight, namely the few bits and pieces of Dean’s that she hated. Whilst packing some bits in the loft she came across an old looking box, intrigued she took it out and began to look at what had been left behind.
The box had a few very old newspapers and a couple of old items of jewellery. Amongst the items was an old pocket watch, she listened for the tick, nothing, she shook it and listened still nothing. Assuming the box was junk she took it downstairs and left it on the kitchen worktop.
An hour or so passed as Belinda cleaned the cupboards in preparation for their items. She heard the box tick. Intrigued to see if the watch had started, she opened the lid and took it out. As she pulled it out she caught the button on the top. The world seemed to slow down, then a flash.
As her eyes readjusted she found herself sitting on a stone floor, she looked around realising she was no longer in the confines of her house.
