toilet seats

The problem isn't men leaving the toilet seat up, it's that women keep leaving it down...
Oh no, I didn't just say that.... Damnit. I am sorry, don't hurt me. I was pressured, I swear. It's not even my idea?
What idea? I don't even know what you are talking about... go easy, I have kids...
Well, I might have kids, the tests haven't come back yet.

Sawwy Pooh, but we can't have the DNA test on Pooger's lil' sis until after she's born. There's a chance that she'll be a Tiggiraven. :D

Because accidents happen

True story:

One of my step fathers insisted you put the seat the way you found it...hence more often than not it was up. One morning I got up went in, ostensibly to brush my teeth. Now, the cabinet had a loose shelf...the one with the tooth brushes. I bumped the shelf lightly and the entire family's tooth brushes cascaded out of the cabinet...bounced off the corner of the sink, I managed to grab two of the 4...the other two? Yup in the potty.

So which would you prefer? Raising the seat or worrying about why your toothbrush bristles are all the sudden dark blue and smell like Toilet Duck? hmmm?

We both close the toilet lid when we're done. He can lift both lid and seat, I lift just the lid, and we close it all up when done. It is a courtesy to each other and to any guests visiting, not to leave the lid open. Open bowl of toilet water is not the most attractive sight when drying-off from a shower or washing your face or brushing your teeth!

Someone else mentioned pets. Before Arthur (our dachshund) died 5 weeks ago, he (like many pets) tried to drink out of the toilet if left up, so that was one more reason to keep the seat AND lid down.

I think the issue is consideration for others. Leaving seat up/down when the other doesn't like it is a lack of consideration for soemeone you love. Closing the lid resolves the problem, then everyone has to lift SOMETHING to go pee. And as I said, you don't have to see the bowl. Sure, we keep it clean, but still, the inside of a toilet is not something you particularly like to see while washing-up.

fascinating subject - I got my first lesson when i was about five, and my mom used the john in the middle of the night when she sat on the cold porcelain and screamed. Ive never failed to put a seat down since - even in a gas station or other public restroom

Cant resist - one such restroom had a plaque - "Use me well and keep me clean - I'll never tell what I have seen!"
