I second this for both spelling and grammar. Andreas is right to urge caution.

Also, if you write in a program like Word, there are spellcheck and grammar tools available. In my experience, they tend to be less aggressive than Grammarly.

I started a couple of years ago and reading the FAQs especially about dialogue, reading Elements of Style, and a couple of others made a difference. Also practicing reading looking for elements: how are those clauses constructed, or why is that a good paragraph. Getting your work read aloud to yourself helps a lot too. Does it sound smooth and match the character?

Would it though? 'Orographic' is a perfectly good word, just not the one wanted here: that's a big problem with spelling checkers.

If you use any kind of automated grammar assist, you risk having the Literotica software think the story is written by a large language model and rejected. You might consider trying to find a human proofreader.

I have not seen a tool that really helps with ensuring that a body of text uses consistent POV, tense, or gender.

Even today, after proofreading a WIP for the third or fourth time, it was only by listening to a text-to-speech rendition that I picked up some POV errors. Find a beta reader if you can.

ProWritingAid is best for fiction. It has tools far beyond the usual grammar checkers for analyzing fiction. Grammarly and others are more geared to business writing.

But like with all tools, never use the "revise" and "rewrite" features in ProWritingAid or your story risks getting flagged for AI use.
