Inspired by the John Cusack RomCom, High Fidelity*

In the movie, Cusack owns a record store and compiles Top 5 lists about everything in his life. In an attempt to finally start a successful thread, I'm going to borrow his concept and attempt to have semi-regular TOP 5 topics for folks to respond to.

*this is not to get your hopes up about the movie. It's worth the watch but not making any top 5 lists. It does have early Jack Black, a pretty funny Tim Robbins role and the drop dead gorgeous Lisa Bonet.

Since I'm a perv and this site is a gathering place for pervs. I thought I'd start with:

Top 5 sexual positions (note, Cusack always does them like a countdown)

5. Doggie style - might be #1 for some but for me, while it definitely has it's benefits, it also has it's limitations.

4. Spoon - great morning sex position. Has many of the benefits of doggy but accessing other parts is easier.

3. Reverse Cowgirl - I love to look and the backside is beautiful. I feel a little like a bronco in a rodeo here and I like taking her for a ride. One of my favorite things is when she collapses back onto me after cumming.

2. Missionary - boring for some but i like kissing and I like the control. I like to change the pace and tease a little with that and I find it best done in missionary. Missionary can also morph into a handful of other positions.

1. Cowgirl - the view doesn't get any better and everything is within reach. Ride em!

What's your list?

TLDR?

Due to yesterday's overwhelming response, today's topic will take us in a different direction.

Top 5 Rock n Roll bands of all time:

5. REM - they somewhat bridged the gap between classic rock and what rock is today. They spawned and inspired a lot of music. They cranked out an incredible volume of work in the 80s and showed the ability to transition their music over time.

4. The Rolling Stones - some will be offended ar me having them this low. Love some of their music but songs like Emotional Rescue put them behind the next band for me.

3. The Who - when I think Classic Rock, this is who comes to mind. Love their anthems and Tommy was pure (acid induced?) genius. From the time I was a kid til now, their music inspired me. Baba O'Riley can be played without my belting out the tune (apologies if you've ever had to suffer thru my singing) and breaking out the air drums

2. U2 - I love them. Be it live or in studio, I love them. I'm hoping for one more great album but the body of work stands against any.

1. Beatles - it's a boring choice but the music the inspired and the bands they spawned is incredible. The band created a lifetime of music in a decade. Find me a bad song? The music and the influence mean they will likely always hold this spot for me.

Top 5 TV binges

1. Fleabag, second season. The first season I kinda spread out, but the second one grabbed me by the lapels and made me go the distance in one night. Bitingly funny, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a treasure, though I can’t quite get into Killing Eve; it feels too shallow, and the quirkiness doesn’t work as well.

2. Mrs. Maisel, first two seasons. Finished them in about four days. Every character is well drawn and brings must-watch moments. The episode with the dinner with the rabbi has made me bust a gut laughing three or four times. The third season lost some off the fastball, but still not bad.

3. Dexter, first four seasons: This was on DVD, so it was over the course of a month. The spectacle of a man rationalizing his life with his dark passenger is compelling, and the villains are great foils. Too bad it went immediately to shite in Season 5.

4. GLOW, second season: I was leisurely with the first and third seasons, but the middle one I did in about 36 hours. A great look at damaged souls who in the end have very caring souls. Based on an over-the-top women’s wrestling show from the 1980s.

5. Speed Racer, the 1960s TV show: Again on DVD. Mostly because of the blast I had making fun of it with my daughter.

Honorable mention: Teenage Bounty Hunters, Casual first season, The Commish first season, Patriot Act

I shall attempt to answer both, but I'm not big into making lists.

Top 5 sexual positions:

5. Doggy style
4. Spoon
3. Cowgirl
2. He yanks me to the edge of the bed, on my back, then shoves my legs back.
1. Missionary

Although I must say, I don't pay much attention to position when having sex. As long it isn't causing pain or strain, it's all good.

Rock and Roll Bands:

5. The Cult
4. Pink Floyd
3. Redbone
2. The Rolling Stones
1. Guns N' Roses

But dang. That was a tough one. So many others I wanted to list!

Guns N Roses really feeling the love here. That's awesome. I had to Google both Redbone and Slade. Very cool to get such a wide range already

Loved seeing Queen, Tom Petty and Pink Floyd. All 3 were very hard to leave off my list.

Top five high school teachers.

5. Mrs. Jamerson, Grade 9 English - She took an instant dislike to me. It started on the first day of class with a gum chewing incident. I was a target from that day on. She tried to fail me for not turning in my assignments. My counselor talked to one of her aids and discovered that Mrs. Jamerson had hid them in the back of a file cabinet. I had never had anything like that happen to me before. It was a sort of loss of innocence for me, but also a valuable lesson about sticking up for myself.

4. Ms. Craig, 2nd semester Grade 9 English - I was transferred to Ms. Craig’s class mid year. I was quiet and a little beat down by the experience with my previous English teacher. We had a creative writing assignment and she read my story to the class as an example of a well written story. She didn’t tell the class who wrote the story, but she grinned at me after she was done. She really bolstered my confidence.

3. Mr. Huntington, Algebra 2 Grade 11 - I hated Algebra and don’t remember a damn thing, but Mr. Huntington was incredibly hot and that made the class bearable.

4. Mr. Garduno, Spanish 2 Grade 10 - A boy in the class had been harassing me with teenage boy inappropriateness for weeks. Mr. Garduna called him on it, moved him to the other side of the room, but the harassment continued. One day I walked into the class and walked by the boy sitting at the wrong desk and he tugged my skirt, pulling it halfway down by butt. Mr. Garduna grabbed the kid by collar and took him to the office. It was pretty impressive because the kid was a football player and at least six inches taller.

5. Mrs. Aliprandi, Spanish 3 Grade 11 - What a lovely person. Patient, engaging, and just delightful. I also worked in her classroom for one lunch period a week, helping her grade papers from her Spanish 1 classes. I was going through some stuff at home, and she got me to talk about it. She was a tremendous help to me. But it was always, “En español, por favor.”

I love this idea for a thread and any that provide a little more room for thought. I also really, really want to watch that movie again. Just something about John Cusack in that era...

Top 5 Reasons you’re running late

5. Lost track of time with a game.
4. Took longer in the shower than intended.
3. Took longer to drive there than foreseen.
2. Forgot what time I was supposed to be there.
1. Kids

Wow. I am honored to have 3 lovely and talented women grace my thread since I last visited. Maybe this will catch on.

Since it is Thirsty Thursday, let's make today's topic beverages.

Please give me your Top 5 beverages

5. Coke - I can't tell you the last time I had one. But I can tell you exactly what one tastes like and that I do still get cravings. Once I hit 40, my Dr advised that I give up soda, as it had no redeeming value and it would start to become harder to keep off my midsection. I quit cold turkey but that shit is burned in my brain. It was my coffee, it was my hangover cure and it was my go to with pizza and tacos. Now it's my ex.

4. Water - I was hesitant but its grown on me. Can't live without it

3. Milk - it does a body good. I've been a fan my whole life. During COVID lock-in, when we had a full house, we were going thru almost 2 gallons a day.

2. Bourbon - that tasty brown water has my heart

1. Beer - it was likely always going to hold this spot but the places beer has gone in the last 10 years + a couple visits to Amsterdam, a trip to Bruges and Germany.....it is truly the nectar of the Gods.

5. Water - Not my favorite by any means, but it’s what I drink most of the time, so I figure it has to be on the list.

4. OJ - My breakfast staple

3. Orange Soda - Much like Mr. Bogey, I couldn’t tell you the last time I had it, but damn if it isn’t a guilty favorite. Something about that pure, sticky, sugary sweetness.

2. My alcoholic drink of choice changes, but currently it’s rum.

1. Tea - I absolutely love a cup of hot tea in the morning or winding down at night.

5. Beer. Specifically Dogfish 90 min IPA
4. Bourbon neat
3. Grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed
2. Gin and tonic made with Hendricks
1. Water

5. Coke classic...prefer fountain over crushed ice
4. Bourbon on ice
3. Vodka and cranberry with lime
2. Coffee hot or iced
1. Water...I love icy cold water and drink a gallon a day

5. Sercial Madeira
4. Lagavulin (single malt whisky)
3. Ardbeg Corryvreckan (single malt whisky)
2. Château Musar (Lebanese red)
1. Brunello di Montalcino (Italian red)

5. Lemonade, preferably made fresh with recently picked lemons and simple syrup. Not too sweet though, I prefer my lemonade a little on the tart side.

4. Tea, iced or hot. Darjeeling, Oolong, English breakfast with a bit of milk, chai, Thai, ceremonial matcha...The list goes on and on. Herb tea. Butterfly pea, rose hip, chamomile, peppermint, passionflower, hibiscus...the list goes on and on.

3. Kombucha and Jun. It’s an acquired taste and I’m addicted. I make my own and my favorite flavors are hibiscus, peach/ginger, blackberry/lemon/ginger, pineapple/ginger, and grapefruit/ginger.

2. Coffee. When I was five years old I begged my mother for a sip of her coffee and she warned me that I wouldn’t like it. I asked for more.

1. Water. I keep a water bottle with me at all times. I panic if I leave the house without it and will turn around and go home to pick it up, if I’m not too far away. If I’ve gone too far to turn back I’ll pull over at the next store I come to and buy a huge bottle. I just don’t feel right if I’m not properly hydrated.

TY all for your participation, nice to see a checkin from the frozen tundra and 1/2 of the top couple on lit showed to school us on scotch and wine. 👍Love it.

We need a topic to carry through the weekend because I'm not planning to post another til next week so I need something where everyone has an interest and an opinion.

What are your Top 5 Movies of All-time:

5. Pulp Fiction - this category is so hard, I decided to go by most times watched as a tiebreaker. I didn't love this movie the first time I saw it but by the 3rd time, I couldn't stop watching it. So many great lines from this movie. The acting is great and I really love the way they chose to tell the story.

4. Princess Bride - this could easily be #1. The broad appeal of this movie is amazing. I've never met anyone that doesn't love it. It brings out emotion. The movie has warmth, compasion, passion and drama. It's funny with a happy ending and leaves you smiling every time you watch it.

3. Silence of the Lambs - probably the scariest non-horror movie ever. The acting is off the charts in this one. The scene where it goes dark is petrifying, your heart rate can't help but double even if you've seen it before. That scene shows why Jodie Foster is always an Oscar contender

2. Rounders - I'm a lawyer and I love poker. Great actors telling a great story. Some really great characters written here. Hollywood screwed this one up as it was virtually a straight to video that blew up a couple years after release.

1. Shawshank Redemption - how cant you love this movie? The fact that Forest Gump won the Oscar over this and Pulp Fiction is the biggest crime in Oscar's history.

I would not be shocked if none of my movies appear in any other lists. I could have easily done another list with 5 different movies if I used a different criteria for selection.

Alright people, let's have yours.

I really don’t think I could make a top 5 movies list...it changes constantly. If I had to, Princess Bride would be up there, unlike you I would not be surprised to see it on other lists. It’s such a damn good movie. Oh, and Silence of the Lambs would be up there too. I don’t watch horror movies...I don’t think this falls under breaking that rule, but it certainly falls into a gray area but I absolutely love it. I am fascinated by and end up in support of his character.

I realize it's a tall order. There were at least 15 others I considered. I thought about cheating and naming the Lord of the Rings trilogy as one movie. That's part of the fun of assembling the list. I know someone will mention a movie I didn't consider that I regret not having in my Top 5

Haha, perhaps I shall reconsider and give it a go. Although...seeing as how I had to edit my comment to reconsider that you’d mentioned Silence of the Lambs as well...I don’t think it bodes well for me.

My favorite movies—I have a couple that would remain on this list always:

1. Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock. Suspenseful, smart, beautiful, it’s timeless.
2. Shawshank Redemption . I love this movie. Overcoming struggles and coming out the other side having grown and succeeded.

Others that are my favorites but would change depending on mood. Right now I’d pick

3. The Jerk. Starring Steve Martin. Just a classic that never fails to make me laugh.
4. Singin’ In the Rain. Gene Kelly in his prime. I used to watch this with my mom and grandmother. It just got to be a tradition.
5. Princess Bride It’s a classic but never ages. Makes me happy.

Welcome and thanks for you contributions. Anything to take your mind off the Nats, right? 😉😛

Just added Rear Window to my watch list. You would think with that title, that a voyeur like me would have been naturally sucked in already. 😁
