Welcome back![]()
Thankyou
I had to have a doubletake at that word fard lol
During the 15th & 16th Centuries, looking pale and etheral "was in". Makeup was an almost ghostly white complexion that was ideal for both men and women. It was thought of as a way to distinguish the upper class from the peasants and laborers in the fields
Women began shaving their foreheads, plucked out all their eyelashes and eyebrows, and whitened their faces and cleavages, sometimes using ceruse.
To achieve that "upper class" pale look they often used egg whites, ground alabaster and clay. Venetian ceruse, also known as "spirits of Saturn", was a skin whitening cosmetic with a base of white lead. It was highly prized and widely used (by Queen Elizabeth I of England, among others), even though it was known that extensive use would cause lead poisoning, leading to severe sickness or even death.
shaving the forehead & eyebrows is not a good look imo! lol
