Troops on the Border

Border patrol should be a regular part of training anyway.

When was the last time US Army has been deployed on US soil?

This disturbs me.

WWII, and during the 50s when Eisenhower ordered the military to remove millions of Mexican illegal aliens. The 1992 L.A. riots saw 10,000 troops from the California National Guard, 2000 active component soldiers National Guard, and 1500 regular U.S Marines from Camp Pendleton, CA on the streets of L.A from the Hollywood Hills to Long Beach. In the 50's Federal troops were used to put down racial unrest in Alabama and Arkansas. But let not your heart be troubled, all will be well.

I suppose an army should train to patrol its country's borders against armed invaders -- but not against would-be immigrants, that's not a military problem.

Rumor is that RW militias are heading to the border so it should be interesting if they run into troops.

Probably just left wing propaganda though.

Exclusive: Pentagon balked at U.S. border troops building detention facilities - officials

The Trump administration discussed using the U.S. military to build facilities to house detained migrants as part of its new mission on the Mexican border...

“There is no plan for U.S. military forces to be involved in the actual mission of denying people entry to the United States,” Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Monday. “There is no plan for the soldiers to come in contact with immigrants or to reinforce the Department of Homeland Security as they are conducting their mission. We are providing enabling capability.”

8000 troops to lay down razor wire? Something's fishy in Denmark.

Those militia types do know there are actual brown and black people in the US army, right?

Snip:

President Trump said Thursday that he hopes the military troops being deployed to the United States’ southwestern border will not have to fire upon any migrants attempting to enter the country through Mexico, but warned that if any rocks are thrown from across the border “we will consider that a firearm.”

“They want to throw rocks at our military, our military fights back,” Trump said. “I say, consider it a rifle.”

This may come as a surprise to you but some of those groups have black and brown members, hell even some yellow and red members. What they have in common is that they're almost all former military.

So you expect a big military fuck fest?

The militias are mostly white -- and some are strongly associated with white nationalism. And I don't think most of them are ex-military.

I predict it will be pretty anti-climactic. The "militias" or whoever will be kept away, and the caravan will arrive, some will be processed, very very few will qualify for amnesty, the rest will disperse eventually. No fireworks.

No plan until the CinC orders them to do so, as is the rule.
