A South Carolina Republican lawmaker who publicly claimed transgender people and drag performers “harm” children has been sentenced to federal prison for distributing child sexual abuse material.

State Rep. RJ May was sentenced Wednesday to 17 and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of distributing child sex abuse material. Prosecutors said May shared hundreds of explicit images and videos of children, including material involving toddlers and the rape of seven-year-olds.

Investigators found that May distributed nearly 500 files over several days in 2024 using messaging apps and aliases, sharing material with users across the U.S. and in multiple countries. A judge said the content he shared was among the most severe she had ever encountered.

During his time in the legislature, May repeatedly accused LGBTQ+ people of endangering children and spoke in favor of restricting transgender rights. He was honored in 2023 as “Legislator of the Year” by Moms for Liberty, an organization known for accusing LGBTQ+ communities of “grooming” children.

May will serve his sentence in federal prison.

The ICE people are merrily doing the job the government has given them, ridding the country of illegal immigrants that have been convicted of a crime in the country they came from and sending them back. Absolutely, why aren't you talking about the story, earlier in 2024, where they raided a school and arrested a woman teacher, illegal immigrant, and everyone complained, only to find out she had shot someone down the street, on her lunch hour, many witnesses leading officers to the school
