Trump Halts $3 Trillion in Federal Grants Pending Review of Compliance With His Executive Orders

By streiff | 9:59 AM on January 28, 2025

President Trump has ordered the suspension of all federal grants, loans, and other financial programs pending a thorough agency review. The decision was announced in a two-page memo from the Office of Management and Budget titled "Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs." According to the memo, it affects at least $3 trillion in federal outlays.

The freeze refers to several Trump executive orders as the authority -- Protecting the American People Against Invasion (Jan. 20, 2025), Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid (Jan. 20, 2025), Putting America First in International Environmental Agreements (Jan. 20, 2025), Unleashing American Energy (Jan. 20, 2025), Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing (Jan. 20, 2025), Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government (Jan. 20, 2025), and Enforcing the Hyde Amendment (Jan. 24, 2025). It immediately ends funding for Green New Deal, NGO support (see JD Vance Suggests Mammon, Not God, May Explain the Stance of US Catholic Bishops on the Migrant Invasion), diversity, and foreign aid programs.

To make sure that none are going to any of Politruk's communist goals.

Meanwhile - people who rely on those grants will now be filing for unemployment

Good news. Hopefully Trump's administration will continue to massively shrink the government and its gluttonous ways.

This will make the impact of the upcoming global Bitcoin economy less dramatic and painful than it could be.

I approve this message.

What does the second sentence have to do with the first?

I'm loving the irony in all of this. We have the dems and their operatives running out to the press yapping about how much this policy will cost and how that policy will increase the debt. But then running to the courts to prevent the administration from reigning in out of control spending.

You can't make this shit up.

The issue is that the orders aren't coherent. The administration has given no guidance. Meals on wheels is questioning whether they are able to deliver meals to seniors. That is why the order was temporarily blocked.

Secondly, Congress has decided where the money is spent. The President has no authority to change that.

If you want to control spending, then go to the purse. Until then, you're going to have this back and forth to the courts.

MAGAts are ecstatic at this because they always hated all the college kids better educated than they were.

Chuck Schumer has pointed out this is illegal. Congress voted these grants. The president has no discretion here.

Yeah. Convince a felon he is wrong is like trying to put lipstick on a pig. It ain't a pretty result, no matter how firm a grip you got on that squealer.

Fuck Chuck Schumer. "Ole Joe's sharp as a tack."

You're all a bunch of ignorant, lying, pieces of shit. No one is listening to you.

It's ALL show. Congress decides. They should charge trump for the paper and ink.
This!
The people that support the EOs right now want him to be a dictator.

Congress has the purse

Remember when MAGA wanted the executive to not decide on funding based on expertise (Chevron)?

Neat

Biden is still sharper than Trump -- you know I'm right if you've heard him speak any time in the past year.

Democratic star Congresswoman Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez celebrates the Trump administration's decision to rescind its failed freeze on federal grants — and puts it in the proper context.

This has MAGA frothing with rage…

"This is Trump’s first major loss. When we fight, we win," AOC wrote on X.

"We may not have majorities in the House and the Senate, but we DO have the power to loudly educate and mobilize against the mass looting the Trump admin is attempting against our veterans, healthcare, education, and more," she added.

This is the simple truth of the matter. Republicans are not unstoppable. Donald Trump is a deeply incompetent president who has no understanding of the federal government he’s been entrusted with leading.

His mistakes and poor decisions will multiply by the day and by the time the mid-term elections roll around American voters will be clambering for a reprieve from MAGA governance.

Democrats must seize every opportunity we have to oppose this corrupt, cruel, and stupid regime.

Can't wait for the new spread of turbucolosis.

Should be a fun time
