Trump Orders Removal of Confederate History Exhibit

I toured The Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond. Lots of battle flags and personal effects etc. Awesome. There was nothing about slavery because it is a military museum. I had sixteen ancestors serve in the Confederate Army. Salute

🙄

Disgrace.

😑

The US has spent the last century whitewashing slavery. Gone With The Wind portrayed the Confederacy as the good guys (with slaves being friends of their owners), as did Dukes of Hazzard etc. I don't recall anything that showed the losers as being the bad guys. People even now are celebrating the leaders of the war of southern aggression and removing reminders of what the war was about.

Trump knows which side his bread is buttered, he has seen his rallies and the flags that people are waving. He's seen the merch stands selling Confederate and Nazi memorabilia and knows that nobody there is buying Unionist tat never mind rainbow flags.

The first (and second) president ever to never proclaim that the time of division is over and that he is everyone's president.

Tell me, do you clowns think you make me feel bad for my ancestry. Tell me all about YOUR black friends. Never mind you are here all the time, you have no friends of any color. Have a nice life.

Are you proud of having slavery in your heritage?
Eat shit and bark at the moon, you're just running your ignorant mouth now.

99.9% of humanities ancestors were enslaved at one time or another. You'd think that they'd get the fuck over it instead of using it as an excuse for their failure. You'll find my sympathy for them in the dictionary right between 'Shit' and 'Syphilis'.

Magats must be worried, their intolerance, insults and rage are skyrocketing.

So you have no sympathy for slaves, we understand that.

Slavery is an integral part of your heritage and Trump is removing it from museums. Museums are there to make you think, literally: Museo, I think. Think about what was bad so you don't do it again. Or in your case, what is worth repeating.

Orders the removal of information showing that owning humans as slaves was not a great thing to do and shouldn't be regarded as a time when America Was Great.

in other words humans as slaves bad

but i think left wingers were like why are the right wingers removing anything about slaves in usa from usa history

A federal judge warned Justice Department lawyers on Friday that they were making “dangerous” and “horrifying” statements when they said the Trump Administration can decide what part of American history to display at National Park Service sites.

The sharp exchange erupted during a hearing in Philadelphia over the abrupt removal of an exhibit on the history of slavery at the site of the former President’s House on Independence Mall.

“You can’t erase history once you’ve learned it. It doesn’t work that way,” said Senior U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe, an appointee of President George W. Bush.

Fuck the judge, the administration damn well can decide what is displayed.

Further, removing that shit from an inappropriate venue is not "erasing" history. Quite the opposite, it is the race baiters and snowflakes that have been busily trying to erase history.

Specifically, who are the race baiters and snowflakes and what history are they busily trying to erase?

Trump can decide what to display at Mar a Lago. If he wants a fake poster showing him as Time 'Man of the Year' to impress his guests, carry on.

The National Parks are not his personal property, they are literally owned by the Nation. The history of the Confederacy needs to be remembered alongside the history of the Massacre at Wounded Knee.

Well you braying shit for brains jackass, please explain to the room EXACTLY what Philadelphia has to do with the Confederacy. How about we go and plaster Independence Hall with a bunch of slavery shit? And yeah, we'll go up to Ft. Ticonderoga and plaster a bunch of slavery bull shit up there too.

Go fuck yourself and drown in the cesspool of the past that you want to wallow in.

It's always nice to hear a measured and thoughtful argument from a pedophile supporter.

The exhibit includes biographical details about the nine people enslaved by George and Martha Washington at the presidential mansion. The retention of slavery was what the Confederacy was about.

No one fucking cares, got it?

Judging the past by the standards of today are the products of really, really, low IQ minds. Incredibly stupid people and I'm all for stripping inappropriate venues of the products of really, really, low IQ minds. Got it?

Obviously you do care. You’re having a meltdown about it. 👍

Now call someone “shit for brains” (again), proclaim that only you understand what’s actually going on, and take your meds.

You don't care and that's the problem.

Go visit a museum about your own history and educate yourself.

How is this an "inappropriate venue"? Here's a quote from the article:

Empty bolt holes and shadows are all that remains on the brick walls where explanatory panels were displayed at the President’s House Site, where George and Martha Washington lived [6th and Market St., Philadelphia] with the people they owned as property when Philadelphia was the nation’s capital. One woman cried silently at their absence. Someone left a bouquet of flowers. A hand-lettered sign said “Slavery was real.”

It seems quite appropriate to have an exhibit showing that, even in the city where the Declaration of Independence itself was written, there were those whose people would not achieve their freedom until "four score and seven" years later!

Slavery existed, whether you choose to admit it or not.

Washington held slaves at Mt. Vernon, not in Philadelphia.

Incorrect. Why do you make things up and pretend they are true?

During Washington’s presidency, at least ten enslaved people worked at the president’s houses in New York City and Philadelphia: Ona, Hercules, Moll, Giles, Austin, Richmond, Paris, Joe, Christopher Sheels, and William Lee.

They tended the horses and carriages in the stables, escorted Washington and his family when they left the house, cooked in the kitchen, did laundry, cleaned the home, cared for the Washingtons’ grandchildren, helped the Washingtons dress in the morning, did their hair, mended their clothes, waited on the dining table, and greeted guests. Every aspect of the home depended on enslaved labor to run smoothly.

And how do you feel about being related to people who felt so strongly about the following principles?

. . . The constitution, it is true, secured every essential guarantee to the institution while it should last, and hence no argument can be justly urged against the constitutional guarantees thus secured, because of the common sentiment of the day. Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the "storm came and the wind blew."

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. . . . - Alexander H. Stephens
