Karli Michaels had just arrived home and was unloading groceries from the back of her SUV. Life on the base since her husband had been deployed was anything but interesting. That was, until today.
Andrew was often deployed and away from, sometimes for days to weeks of being gone at a time. Of course Karli never questioned it. It was life in the military, right?
As she got the last bag of food out of the back, she was locking up when she could feel someone staring at her. Turning, Karli looked at the end of the driveway and saw a man standing there. That's all he was doing was standing there. With a puzzled look, Karli turned and headed straight for the house at a fast pace. But that was before another man stepped in front of her, causing her to scream in fright.
He was quick as he grabbed her arm, squeezing it tightly. What the hell?
"Mrs. Michaels, tell us where Andrew is."
It was a demand. Not something asked out of politeness.
Karli shook her head and looked around, hoping someone would see what was going on, "Who are you?!" She demanded. Of course, they didn't answer.
"Where is Andrew?!"
"He's on deployment." She said, as she hated the little quiver in her voice. Karli wasn't a tough woman. Standing at 5'2" and with a petite frame, she was considered anything but dangerous. The way the man was holding her arm made her cry out finally from the pain.
"When he gets back, Karli, tell him he's going to have visitors."
That was it. With a hard jerk, they let her arm go and walked off. Of course she could call the MPs but as she turned back to look for the men. They were gone.
What the hell was going on?
