I openly admit to being a winter wimp, I can't even imagine --50F, we reached -20F a few years ago and it pretty much shut us down because our infrastructure isn't rated that low. The only while I like to see scattered on the floors is pet fur.

I haven't confirmed this yet (internet is what it is) but they weren't the first to complete the trip, another set of women beat them but they used a sidecar and wore dresses so they didn't get stopped. The Van Buren's were of the mind that you use the right equipment and gear for the task, which meant, you ride a motorcycle you wear motorcycle gear and since there were no motorcycle outfits for women back then, they wore the same ones everyone else did. They were actually really interesting women who did a lot more than they are remembered for.

I haven't researched them much, but I did hunt down a bit of stuff about them. I liked their huevos. One thing I did learn about cross country or very long trips before those women was not only the lack of roads abut the lack of places to buy gasoline.

Got the good little doctor to her appointment and back, and fed her along the way (mostly so she'd stop bitching about not having eaten before leaving home). I'm glad that someone was in there listening to the PA, whom I liked. She seemed okay in my book. There's a new appointment in 30 days or so. That'll do.

I will soon be celebrating surviving another solar rotation so I had to renew my driver's license and health card, two pictures, 90 dollars, and a few signatures and I'm good for another five years. Given how bad government ID pictures are I can only imagine how bad they will be this time. Since I put out the effort to be good I rewarded myself with a nap when I got home but I didn't eat out so while I slept my very sweet SO made an amazing chicken stew for me and even some fresh onion bread (we have machines) to go with it.
