The music that I keep in the 4runner is a little different from what is in the library or on the ‘putter. It is more likely to be "Bests" or "Greatest Hits" then individual albums, for one thing. I t is also going to be loaded toward my favorite types of music, with but one or two of the others, so that I won't be bored. For instance, I only have one blues selection out there, when about 15% of my collection is blues. One reason for this is that I want music to keep me pumped while driving, not mellowed out. Here then is what the 4runner has in it at this time, in no particular order:

Ella Fitzgerald "Best of"
Iron Butterfly "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
Peter, Paul, and Mary "In Concert"
Creedence Clearwater Revival "20 Greatest Hits"
Three Dog Night "The Best of 3 Dog Night"
The Great Tenors "The Revue Collection"
AC/DC "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
Eagles "Greatest Hits Volume 2"
Queen "Classic Queen"
South Pacific "Sound Track"
Nat King Cole "Vintage Collection"
Eagles "Their Greatest Hits 1971-75"
The Doors "Greatest Hits"
The Beatles "1"
Bing Crosby "The Best of"
Simon and Garfunkel "Greatest Hits"
Duke Ellington "The Collection"
Sparky "Sparky"
Ray Charles " The Best"
Lightin' Hopkins "Plays the Blues"
Various "Pure 70's"
Blood Sweat, & Tears "Found Treasures"
Various "The Ultimate Classic Rock"

So what tunes drive you?

You got Sparky? Damn, I'm still waiting for my Sparky.

No Stevie Ray Vaughn? :\

Given my location, "pumped" while driving is not good. Not good at all, so I tend to quieter things.

Enya -- Watermark, The Memory of Trees, Shepherd's Moon
Loreena McKennit -- The Visit, The Mask and The Mirror
Stevie Nicks -- The Other Side of The Mirror
Anonymous4 -- 11,000 Virgins, A Lammas Ladymass
Topsy Turvy soundtrack
The Mission soundtrack
Vision
Illumination
Cat Stevens -- Tea for The Tillerman, Catch Bull at Four
Simon and Garfunkel -- Bookends
Paul Simon -- Graceland

I love Graceland. I originally had it on tape, then had to have it on CD. I think it's easily one of his best works.

I love it, and there's nothing better for those long afternoons on the 405. Well, maybe a glass of wine and a long massage, but it's kind of hard in the middle of a parking lot.

I've got more than 30 CD's in my car post most of them are along the lines of the following:

Papa Roach
Oleander
Nickleback
Metallica ( S&M, Black, and Master of Puppets)
Creed (both of them)
Garth Brooks
Incubus
Hootie and the Blowfish
GodSmack
Stone Temple Pilots
Kiss ( multiple)
Blues Traveler
Dishwalla
Eagles

Green Onion - Booker T & the MGs
Theme from Peter Gunn - The Hellecasters
La Grange - ZZ Top
Hush - Deep Purple
Tusk - Fleetwood Mac
I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett
Satisfaction (Flashpoint, live) - Rolling Stones
Sympathy for the Devil (Flashpoint, live) - Rolling Stones
Pride and Joy - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Roadhouse Blues (live) - The Doors
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh
Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

Don't knock the list until you've tried it! Works perfect in the Chevelle.

Right now I drive to the new Journey CD Arrival. Very cool CD

I only have "traveling music" in the Blazer when I'm actually traveling. That's when I have the time and solitude to listen to a complete album without interuption.

The various symphonies and other classical music selections change from trip to trip, depending on the season and length of the trip. There are only two "traveling tapes" that always go along.

Days Of Future Past and Tubular Bells

Workingman's Dead-The Grateful Dead

My Aim is True-Elvis Costello

Graceland- Paul Simon

or if I'm in a mellow mood

Live in New York- Nirvana

The Great Escape- Blur

sasha & digweed -- Communicate (especially disk 2)

I don't drive but my sis does and one she always has is The Best of Trojan Records, it's all ska and features Judge Dred.

Just remembered that when I ride a motorcycle I often have a walkman on and usually listen to Jimi Hendrix the singles album.

Oh yeah I like that Hendrix album, alot. It's just not in the 4runner right now. Ditto Graceland, 'course out here in the boonies, the cd player is one way to stay awake, so it doesn't pay to get too mellow. To the west there are miles and miles of miles and miles.

CD of our church's organ- was a fundraiser
Tantric
Days of the New
Collective Soul

Hey Sammy, not a bad match, I also have -

The Doors "Greatest Hits"
Simon and Garfunkel "Greatest Hits"
Ray Charles "The Best"

but also I have Louis Armstrong's Greatest (remem 'What a Wonderful Day' from Air America? awesome)

and of course anything by Shania can kick my little ass in gear...

but no one mentioned my fav all time driving song...Thunder Road by the Boss...'so roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair...well this night's busting open...and these two lanes will take us anywhere...'

put your fucking foot down huh?

Wow I feel so poor....no multi cd changer in my car!
So i gotta use cassettes...i normally record em myself since i buy and download a hell of a lot of music. so my playlist varies:

Some quiet music for when my parents are in the car...normally soul or some chinese songs or something.

When it's me and my friends the loud music comes out :)
I prefer some smooth r'n'b to drive to normally, although when the weather's nice and the window's open its party tunes!

Tunes to drive by...since I make my living by driving and being on the road most of the time, I will list some of the good stuff.
Silver & Gold...Lynyrd Skynyrd
Grand Funk Railroad..Greatest Hits
Guess Who...Greatest Hits
Chicago 1 thru 3
Beatles...Blue and Red sets..1964 to 1970, & White Albumn
The Weaver Greatest Hits
Bob Dylan Greatest Hits 1,2,3
Many things by the Grateful Dead
Harry Chapin, Live
Queen's Greatest Hits.
and many many more....

I saw the excellent Le Grange mentioned...

Creamy Lady...I saw on a commercial today that Stevie Nicks and Bill Murray were going to be on a late night talk show...The Eye or the Peacock, I can't remember which one...My favorite Stevie...Bella Donna, Buckingham and Nicks (the album they were recording when Mick Fleetwood happened to be in that studio at that particular time and heard Lindsay shredding and asked him to join the band), and of course the Penguin and Rumors...

My favorite car jams start with the first Crazy Ted solo album...But once I start it off with Stranglehold, my friend hears the whole song and sayz Let's listen to some hiphop
