Gen X here...Boomers: there’s always been participation trophies, Boomers are the reason the world is kinda messed up now, and songs from poster children like Billy Joel can’t save you now.

The Boomers didn't mess up the world. The world has always been messed up. It's no more messed up now than it ever has been, and for most people in the world it's a lot less messed up than it used to be. If you're a woman, a racial minority, a religious minority, gay, or transgender, there's no such thing as the good old days. The good old days never existed.

Crime was worse when I was a kid. Air pollution was worse when I was a kid. The specter of global nuclear annihilation was worse when I was a kid. In almost every possible way the world in 1970, or in 1980, or in 1990, was a more messed up place than it is now. Although, I will say this: I think it was more fun to be a kid in 1970 or 1980 than it is now.

The biggest mistake Boomers made was in being ridiculous, helicopterish parents, obsessed with risk aversion. Boomers raised their Gen X and Millennial kids to have a completely unrealistic idea of what they're entitled to and how safe and happy they should be, to lack a sense of perspective, and as a consequence to gas on without reason or evidence about how messed up the world they've been given is.

I'm bracing myself for the the "OK Boomer" chorus response.

No ok Boomer here, but, you’re simply incorrect about how you raised us: Gen X were the first latchkey kids (and hey this is largely ok because women were being treated equally and had more jobs than ever), and the first generation to experience massive divorces of their parents, and to be commonly moved around the country for the career advancement of their parents.

Gen X raised millennials, either as parents or as big brothers or sisters because mom and dad weren’t home.

So Gen X is responsible for lower crime and a more inclusive society. Think about how AIDS and gays were treated in the 80’s compared to now...

But with that comes some slip ups too: WE were/are the helicopter parents, because as a generation we had no sense of security, no safety net, no sense that “it will all be ok” because we saw our parents divorcing, moving and leaving us alone in the afternoons enough to know that it wasn’t going to be ok, unless WE did something about it (thus more inclusivity, and the overcorrections like helicopter parenting).

People are people, and always have been. Every generation has morons and geniuses, good people and bad, hustlers and slackers. This is one of the axioms of life.

I made a quip that was only in jest. I hope nobody took it any other way. I love you all. Or maybe I think you all suck. In either case, it has nothing to do with generations.

I'm starting to sense that people might be taking this generational bullshit seriously. I certainly don't, and I hope that nobody else does either.

I think a certain amount of intergenerational smack-talk is to be expected. It's fun and silly. When somebody throws an "OK Boomer" at me, I don't get offended.

There's some truth to the various generalizations that one generation makes about another, but in almost every case it's wildly exaggerated. People are people, for good or bad, regardless of the generation. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I do get amused at the notion that the Boomers have caused the world's problems. But of course I remember back in the day when the Boomers were saying the same thing about the generations that came before them.

Somehow we got off the thread's track about turning pornos into stories, which probably is a more worthwhile topic.

I believe that there is not enough plot in porn, I saw several porn films in which there was a rather interesting plot, and the sex itself in such a film faded into the background. It would be cool if porn began to pay more attention to the plot, because all the ideas that are now in porn are quite banal and already boring. I like this idea too. I wonder if there is an audience for it. Mainstream audiences are still very squeamish about movies with too much explicit sex. A big problem with something like 50 Shades, aside from being terrible, is the sex was way too weak and fake. We need more movies that combine a really good story AND really good sex.

The most amazing erotic film I remember seeing was, judging by color, grain, acting and architecture a true film production of early to mid eighties. It had amazing plot density and while perhaps upwards of 80% of dramatic scenes involved full or partial nudity and sexual activity or at least tension of some form, only the very first sexual scene felt somewhat gratuitous but only before further details were learned.

And that was the Wife masturbating by the window watching arrival of the Girl to be extravagant asshole architect's -- her husband's -- live-in part time personal assistant. Girl noticed the woman watching, but of course couldn't see what she was doing. Architect's house was a character of it's own, representing early open plan ideas it had a door-less walk-try bathroom aside from the second level west wing hallway between Architect's home studio and his and his brother's personal bedrooms while his wife had her own suite encompassing the entire second floor of the east wing (it remained off limits except the first voyeur cam scene, also we never visited the kitchen somehow). On the ground level, few steps down from entrance space was a wide open living room / library where Architect held private consultations for his female students of History of Art or whatever it was he was reading in the university for the sole purpose of preying on the students who invariably ended up talked out of their clothes, but never fucked as he rather preferred to embarrass them either giving his wife a clue to barge in for a scene or call the Girl in, and yes, both of them were getting off on spying on those scenes, supposedly clueless to each other, but of course, only the Girl was, at first. Ah, and initially it was quite a shock for our Girl getting an ad-hoc bedroom on the third level, an open wall-less space at the top of the wide central stairs. It wouldn't be so bad if Architect's complicated love life with his wife wasn't so loud, as it involved verbal fights, naked chases and often ended in wild fucking on the said stairs and coming up to sit on the side of the Girl's bed naked, pouring their hearts about their relationship problems, of course as a rather transparent attempt to get under her blanket, what never succeeded. And of course the only bathroom permitted for our Girl was said door-less walk-try atrocity and she quite quickly went from a bit naive and very private person to nonchalantly chatting and flirting with the Architect's Looser Brother or other passersby while soaking in the large bathtub there. Not by small part due to her boss habit to run out of shower to start furiously sketching in his studio, ignoring her presence. Even so, Girl wasn't dumb and arrived cautious of what she's getting into, and remained the actor with most clothed screen time, even relatively, and I may not remember but doubt Architect ever succeeded in getting her, even as he got as far as dating her on the side and even presented her his "post-divorce" apartment downtown, currently being painted, only for his brother to inform her that particular prop hasn't changed appearance for years and figured in many such episodes. Eventually she moved out to live with the said brother shortly, but that appeared to be just a part of another tag teeming scheme between the guys, so she ran from them both.

My memories may be more fond than the reality was, and I have never tried to find out the title of it.
