We exposed the protesters’ efforts to disavow him and the media’s seemingly blind acceptance of their word. We found information almost immediately after Williams was named as the suspect that he was a protester, noting that Bassem Masri, a protest leader, recognized him, although tried to create distance by saying he wasn’t a “regular protester”. Additionally, Williams was a friend of witnesses Dorian Johnson and Piaget Crenshaw, and had at least a few posts referencing the protests. He even had a post suggesting he was about to go loot.
