Typically English Songs

Sure Dexy's aren't Irish?

Shanglan

Yep.

You probably said that because Kevin Rowland claims to be a Gypsy -- sorry, Romany.

I was thinking of more traditional songs such as:

The Leaving of Liverpool
Spanish Ladies
Greensleeves
Drink to me only with thine eyes

but I suppose

Lily the Pink
Engerland Swings Like A Pendulum Do

Etc. are old enough to be classics.

Ogg, I remember "I'm 'enery the 8th I am..."

Perdita ;)

So do I. I get asked to sing it but never a second time.

I wonder why?

Ogg, in the early 60s I had an album (vinyl) by Julie Andrews, wish I still did. Googled it and here are the tracks:

Album title: The Lass With The Delicate Air

1. I Went A-Roaming
2. London Pride
3. The Floral Dance
4. These Precious Things
5. Where'er You Walk
6. Pedro, the Fisherman
7. Tally-Ho!
8. If My Songs Were Only Winged
9. The Lass with the Delicate Air
10. Canterbury Fair
11. To a Wild Rose
12. O the Days of the Kerry Dancing

Thank you, Venetian Lady, but Julie Andrews!

What I was looking for were the songs that used to be sung loudly in pubs when I were but a lad.

Some were Music Hall songs:
Down at the Old Bull and Bush
The Lambeth Walk
Underneath the Arches

Some were genuinely traditional:
The Lincolnshire Poacher
Early One Morning

And some were Shakespearian:
Where the bee sucks

Karoake seems to have finished them off.
