U.S. statehood for Canada?

The constitution.
Guarantees a federal district -- but it has been proposed simply to shrink that district to the blocks around the National Mall and Capitol Hill, and let the rest of the city become the State of Columbia.

It is the largest point of contention and why the opposition to statehood is saying it would need an amendment to happen. Political ramifications are too much.
Nothing in the 23rd Amendment constitutes a barrier to DC statehood.

If Washington DC becomes a state, then the only people left living as residents in the remaining federal city will be the president and vice president and their immediate family. They are guaranteed 3 electoral college votes. That's a barrier.

Canadian statehood? Yeah, that explains why Canadian crowds are booing the Star Spangled Banner whenever it's played at a sporting event. Anti-American fervor has never been higher. Time to pull out of NORAD!
