Limited Options??

Well, as long as you don't forget the eleventh, and most important of all commandments....

The way I look at it, if you limit choices, you just limit potential for enjoyment!!!

Ahoy!

How is everybody? And hi to pompeybloke. Is there a reason for your username? I just think of Pompey--Caesar's rival. He was quite cool. I assume 81 was the year you were born, seeing as you're 23, hm?

I'm an animanga-obsessing, or just generally obsessive geekette. Welcome to the thread!

Pompey, Cool name, or juat a place???

Well, Hi Mars!

Its actually just an abreviation Of Portsmouth, where I live... and yeah, its my year of birth.

Tell me more about this guy who did in ceasar or whatever, not that hot on ancient history...

Drop me a mail if u wanna?

Pompey xx :p

Pompey was a Roman general who was rivals with Caesar. Basically, some of Caesar's lapdogs thought they would please Caesar by killing him (on the beach in Alexandria--which brings Caesar to dun dun dun.... Cleopatra!). But Caesar instead weeps and embraces Pompey, because he respects his rival.

Ironically, Caesar is killed at the foot of Pompey's statue.

I'm a minor ancient history fanatic. People in ancient history are actually really perverted! Especially ancient Egyptians (large amounts of dildos have been discovered in several sites, plus their mythology is super-perverted. Lots of masturbation, but I don't know specifics). It's Christianity that made everybody prudes. Before that, it was decadence, decadence, decadence!

General question to you all:

do you like to hear yourself speak, and if so why/why not?

It's just that I talk rather a lot in real life, and sometimes I actually listen to what I'm saying and I think 'woah, my voice is so odd'. But I actually like my own voice. I like my accent too. It's sort of upper-middle class, I think. Not sure exactly, but I was told I sounded like Lara Croft before.

Woah, Pompey was a dude!

Woah. Nice one!

Oh, and decadance decadance decadance sounds all good to me!!! Throw in a bit of depravity for good measure!

I'm guessing these ancient dildo's werent made from a lifelike polymer, and probably not anything in the battery operated line either???

Pompey xx :p

No, but some did have faces carved on to them!

Oh, and famous gladiators from Roman times were made into lamps (sorta like fan merchandise), and the flame would come out of giant penises.

And the Greeks did it with all and sundry, of course. Actually, it was mostly men who did the mad sex, the women were declared whores if their name was known, practically.

Pompeii (that's Pompeii the city, not Pompey the statesman) was famously buried in ash by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. What is not quite so well known is some of the everyday household items and decorations that were thus preserved. You see, the cult gods that Pompeii was devoted to were Bacchus, god of wine, and Priapus, god of male fertility -- so drunk and lascivious were the normal state of affairs, at least as depicted in sculpture, wall paintings, mosaics, and bric-a-brac such as lamps, scales, and drinking cups. And unlike Greece, in Roman culture women got their share -- what good is a cock carved out of marble if there isn't a marble nymph right there trying to mount it? And when you drained the last of the wine out of your cup, it didn't have "All gone!" printed across the bottom, it had a little scene of a couple humping on the couch, which was supposed to be a clue to what to do now that the wine was gone.

I want to go back to university and study the Classics.....

Its all good

Maybe we should try and re-instigate that thing of printing the handy hint at the bottom of the glass...

I hope that toast emptied your glass marsi?? ;)

Pompey xx :p

Afternoon everyone, hope your all good.
Welcome to ukniceguy, and printing that pic on the bottom of glasses would be a good thing.
