The young couple walked hand in hand down the treelined street. Actually it would be more acurate to say 6 fingured hand in flipper. The two young mutants in love gazed into each others eyes as the evening slowly slipped in. A flash of light off of metal attracted the attention of both of them. They tilted their heads up to look above them.
A voice loud enough to rupture their eardrums spoke to them. "Mutants, you are to be terminated. " They did not have time to even turn and run away before a meter thick light erupted from a fuzzily seen form scant meters above their heads. There lifeblood formed a pool on the sidewalk of a small town in Anywhere USA. Their blood mingling into the afterlife as their flesh cooled.
A newscrew happened upon the scene only seconds after the vicious attack. The cameraman, with fast reflexes was able to get some footage of a large purple and gray form speedily flying away from the newsvan. He then opened the sliding door, his shiny new leather shoes sliding onto the pavement. His two martini lunch soon joined the blood on the ground, as he covered his pants and new shoes with a fine color of light brown. His eyes could hardly register the scene in front of him, as he saw two youngsters laying in pieces on the ground. He recovered his composure and grabbed his camera again, doing his job as best as he could.

Professor Xavier looked over at the television, a momentary flash of news having interrupted his chain of thought. "Peter please turn up the television, I missed what they just said. " Peter dutifully did as his mentor bid. They both sat rapt as an edited picture of two young bodies was shown on the 11 O'Clock news. Xavier noticed the misshapen limbs askew on the ground even before the announcer once again explained that the two dead children had been mutants. The short section of film that the station showed filled Xavier with dread. He recognized the large form rapidly moving away from camera range as a Sentinel.
* Maybe the President has finally made his move against Mutantkind. The mutant registration act has still not passed, having found less support than expected. The actions of some of my fellow mutants, such as Magneto, must have scared the President into unleashing these monsters. I must concact my sources in Washington immediately. * Before going to the telephone, Xavier turned back towards his desk. He flipped a switch that he had hoped never to have to use.
The mansion was immediately surrounded by a phasing field, a gift from Reed Richards for some help the X-Men had rendered years ago. This field would make them invisible to radar and sonar and would make the mansion virtually invisible to all modern forms of detection. Unfortunately as a drawback, no one could leave the mansion or the field would collapse. At least for now, Xavier felt it would be better to hide his precious X-men until he had more information.
An hour later , Xavier put down the phone. He hated having to use the telephone, but most of the ordinary humans that he dealt with complained about a headache after conversing with him mentally. He needed to be in as good of graces with all these people as possible, so the use of the phone was neccesary. He had left a message with the Avengers butler to have them contact him as soon as possible. But as far as the government was concerned, no one had any information for him. They could not confirm or deny that the Sentinels had been unleashed.
Xavier heaved a heavy sigh as he used his powerful mind to think of what he should do. He did not want to leave all the mutants in the world subject to Sentinal attacks while his X-Men were safe in the mansion. But he also did not want to send out his student till he knew more information as far as wha twas going on. He decided to have a talk with all of senior X-Men to let them know what information he had so far.
He sent out a mental summons to all of his older students. He directed them to please come to his office in one hour. He also sent out a message to all students that the danger room was off limits for the next few days due to repairs. He could ill afford someone to get hurt just when he might need them. He rubbed his hands over his aching temples as he sat at his desk , trying to think of a way to tell his X-Men that mutantkind may soon be on the list of extinct animals on Earth.
