Uploaded story appears stuck

I uploaded a story on 18 Aug and it is still in the Pending folder. I had uploaded the story previously and it sat in Pending for well over 8 days.
I have also emailed about this matter twice with no response.
Is there an issue with the site or with my profile?

Hi, thanks for the really helpful comments and links, and yes, I should have checked for previous posts about this issue. My bad.
Based on the guidance from Laurel I will be patient and twiddle my thumbs for the full 30 days.
It's such a relief to know there isn't a Pending Purgatory.
