US normalizes realtions with Cuba

I don't disagree with you.

It may not always be the way history is reported, though.

How long until Havana returns to a Gatsby-like bastion of sin and Capitalistic hedonism do you suppose? 2025? 2030?

Time to buy some beachfront.

LOL fuck that! Time to buy some stock in Barrett Jackson Antique Auto Auctions! I suspect there is about to be a shit-ton of vintage 1950s autos from Cuba hitting the US market!

Well it would have been nice of him to do this before the election. And it would have been better for him to do his thing on immigration before the election, as well.

I think it would have helped. That is all I am saying.

In either case, he didn't have the best clout. He could've tried, sure. But there was so much fucking interference noise being scattered, muddying the waters, mucking up the works. It's hard enough for him to get anything done when there's no noise. I doubt either would've played as good as he played it now. There's a season for everything and his long games are far more successful than his short plays.

I totally get it. There was just no way on earth that the Senate was not going to flip given the seats that were up in the states they were in. It was much less a GOP victory in the sense of the people voicing their opinion on public policy than it was the next click in the every tightening ratchet of 1% ownership of the process (via gerrymandering, disinformation feeding the low information voter, etc).

So given all that, which was pretty evident before the election he could have gone "all in" in the summer and really shook it up.

Well behaved Presidents seldom make history! :)

Oh, sure when voters vote to make their state legislatures controlled by Republicans that is just the Koch brothers buying all of those individual races. In reality all of those states should be in Democratic hands.

Good thing that the Democratic party is far too honorable these days to engage in the process named for the Democrat Gerry's district.

In reality yes they should. If you aren't rich, Christian, White and male (in that order) you voting for Republicans might as well be you digging your grave.

Ok... I'll take the race bait.

If the country is getting ever less white, how do you account for Obama being handed the biggest losses for his Party in 80 years and the Republicans having the most seats since Truman?

Minorities that should ask you what is in their best interest before voting? You realize that the bulk of Republicans come from the entrepreneurial class, a class that is not now, nor has it ever been exclusively white?

Non Question. We stayed home because Obama isn't giving us shit.

Your second paragraph is laughable trash it has always been majority white and will be for the foreseeable future.

By the way entrepreneurs who vote Republican are literally nailing their feet to the floor and have nobody to blame for their failure but themselves and the few who succeed should thank them no more mice who evade cats.

Is the role of minorities to show up in elections if, and only if, they anticipate being given something?

When there is no longer a black man on the ticket, do you anticipate blacks returning to their marginal voting rates?

Pretty much, why else would you vote?

And yes I anticipate blacks returning to their marginal voting rates. Why not. There really isn't a good reason not to.

How about citizenship? Participation in the process? Letting one's voice be heard even if you go to the polls and write in "Mickey Mouse" THAT is expressing your dissatisfaction, not voting is simply lazy.

Your local Democratic party is happy to sign you up, fill out your forms, and even fill out your ballot and turn it in 200 at a time. All you have to do is let them use your mailing address for their "get out the low information voter" drives.

Interesting that you seem to have contempt for those that do go to the polls and express what the feel is in their own best interests. More of the country leans and self identifies as conservative than liberal. Is it ok with you if those conservatives don't vote for Democrats?

Quite a few different reactions around here on it. Older cubans are pissed, and younger ones seem to shrug their shoulders and talk about trade.

An interesting example of a generational dividing line, I'd say.

It sure is. So do you have any skin in the game?

A fair point. If you have to carry a country-to country feud into a second and third generation, you ought to have kissed and made up or nuked them by now.

We have normal relations with Vietnam!

Easy. The white people turned out because they know the country is getting ever less white and it frightens them.

I've explained this before. The Fox News geriatric demographic turned out in droves. The rest of America did not.

Aging Cuban exiles losing their grip on America-Cuba foreign policy.

But don't forget, Vetty's not a racist because he's never used the n-word, has plenty of colored friends, and lost his virginity to a Mexican puta.

So basically to waste my time? Sorry that would be kinda dumb.

Sorry, my local democrat party won't do that, it's illegal they'd get caught and if they did we'd win a lot more.

I don't express contempt for them at all and they should vote the way they feel. I just wish they'd suffer the consequences and learn instead of getting pissed about it. As for how they self identify you've done a fantastic job of making the world liberal a slur in this country.
