USS Dark Fire (IC)

“Bees?” Reeves and Frye both asked at the same time. And then glanced at each other in surprise. “I’m Sorry Counselor could you explain what bees have to do with the entity in our cargo bay under heavy security?”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

Xiana took a deep breath. “Right, okay. On Earth, when there’s an intruder in Japanese honeybees’ hives, the bees will surround the insect completely and move so quickly and so tightly that the insect will be unable to escape and be boiled alive from the heat,” she explained, making a fist with her right hand and covering it with her left as a visual.

“Now, assuming a worst-case scenario where the only option is debilitating the parasite—and knowing they regenerate themselves back to health—could we develop anything to embody the creature? Similar to that current force field that keeps it restrained while under our studies but continuously attacks them time and time again without any of its surface excluded.”

She glanced at each of her coworkers, hoping she was explaining herself efficiently. “With enough speed, what if the attack is simply too fast to be melded in time? As if we’re overwhelming its own regeneration, to the point of exhaustion or surrender?”

“That’s a good idea,” Lt Frye said shrugging. “Our problem is we haven’t really figured out how to really hurt it yet, but we could try and build something. I’ll get my team on it as soon as I get back to engineering.”

“Kinda how we attack thee Borg, with enough variant differentials in the energy weapon frequencies we overcome their defensive shielding.”

The counselor nodded in understanding. Naturally, she couldn’t provide much on the actual manufacturing, but she hoped it was at least a suggestion in the right direction. “I do hope, in general, we have something fruitful soon. I have faith we will.”

Hora

Hora remembered what Commander Reeves had told her during their dinner “I’m hoping that the counselor is effective at communication with the Parasite entities, which would eliminate the need to close the wormhole.” He did not say the counselor was negotiating with the Parasite, just talking to it to prevent the need to close the wormhole.

“Sorry, Dr Marlowe and Commander Reeves, I should not have said negotiations.” Hora acknowledged. “I’m not in agreement with closing the wormhole from the other side. There are 400 quadrillion individual parasites in the milkway galaxy already, so closing the wormhole from the other side would serve no purpose.

This new idea that the parasite is not one creature, but many is important. We may have been talking to the “wrong” parasite. We should conduct the research needed to prove or disprove this hypothesis. Any other comments or ideas?” Hora asked

Stardate 29870527.0815

“I’m sorry Captain, but with only one entity to communicate with, and from what I’ve seen and heard it’s lack of communication, based on the lack of reports of anything fruitful. We’re going to be hard pressed to get anything.”

“I’m thinking this is just a... soldier... a grunt. It doesn’t know the battle plans of the army. So it just doesn’t know what we need to know.”

“Unless there’s something the Counselor is holding back?” he suggested looking over at Xiana, hoping she could share something new.

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

Defeated, she shook her head. “Not yet, at least. I’d love to continue pressing for questions, and I’ll notify as soon as I have any helpful information,” Xiana assured.

“In the meantime, if I could have a copy of that symbol we discussed sent over I’d appreciate it. Otherwise, unless anyone else has an update, I believe I’ve shared all I can.”

“Dark Fire, Send a copy of the image to all department heads. And scan your database for that image as well or anything similar to it.” Reeves ordered.

"Compliance," The Ship replied.

“With no new ideas suggested. We’ll continue as planned. As for our research and communication efforts, we simply don’t have as much time as you might need. Please get me something before we reach the wormhole. Breakfast and staff meeting is over. But if you wish to continue to socialize, enjoy.” Hora said

She was the first person out of the mess. She walked back to her quarters. On the way, she spoke to Dark Fire.

“Dark Fire, have Lt Sol and Lt Blume report to my quarters. Thank You”

Hora reached her quarters, and Lt Sol and Lt Blume reported there a few minutes later.

“Please come in” Hora said as Lt Zosh Sol and Lt Loka Blume entered. Lt Sol walked in and said nothing. As Lt Loka Bumme came in she said “Good morning, Captain” in a friendly respectful voice. The Twi’lek had an amazing figure and gorgeous face and smooth pale blue skin.

“Do you two know why you are here?” Hora asked

Lt Sol did not move and say anything. Loka answer “No, Captain”

“Lt Sol acted out at the captain’s breakfast this morning. He ate some food which resemble a human forearm. Then he went on to insult Dr Marlowe. Lt Sol can you explain your behavior?” Hora asked

“No captain, I can’t” Lt Sol replied.

“I think you can… but you don’t want to.” Hora stated with confidence. “I looked at your officer record from your last command. It seems you have a strong dislike toward any species which has warmblood. Kind of a heatism… reptile vs mammal discrimination.”

“Zosh, is that true?” Loka asked Zosh

“If you knew what warmblood did to my world. To me. I have been discriminated against by warmbloods. They all hate me. So, I hate them back” Lt Sol growled.

“Zosh, I’m a warmblood… I don’t hate you” Loka said as she grabbed his arm lovingly.

“You are different… weird for a warmblood” Zosh replied pulling his arm away.

“Lt Sol, I don’t hate you either. In fact, I have been very understanding towards you. Whatever happened to you in the past, those people did it. Not the people on this ship. And certainly not Dr Marlowe.” Hora said. “I’m one of the few Orions on this ship. I have face discrimination. However, as you can see, that did not hold me back. I’m the captain. You said you wanted to be a captain too. Well, you need to learn to deal with warmbloods. I think you will find, that most are pretty nice, just like Lt Bumme.” Hora said.

“Now, I like and encourage open and honest communication between all officers independent of rank. I want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions. However, everyone must exercise tact and diplomacy. Lt Sol you need to avoid making statements that could be interpreted as offensive or disrespectful.” Hora instructed the dinosaur. “I’d like you to apologize to Dr Marlowe, today. Please work with Lt Bumme so it is heartfelt.”

“And Lt Bumme, whether you know it or not, most females control males. I know you are clever, so you need to tame this male.” Hora instructed the beautiful Twi’lek

“I’m not sure that is true for non-orions, but I’ll try to impart some of my wisdom to Zosh” Lt Bumme replied

Hora smiled “That is all I’m asking”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

With the dismissal, Xiana bid adieu to her colleagues and left for her office… after a quick stop to her quarters for some appearance upkeep. She kept the glasses, but didn’t need more comments on whether or not she was tired.

Assuring her door was locked, she reviewed her notes of the previous day at her desk. “Dark Fire, before connecting me to our prisoner, could you tell me if there are any self-defense classes offered onboard? Whether hand-to-hand combat or with weapons?”

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

Having changed his clothes and fallen into the need of a painkiller, Araiza had uncomfortably carried on with his day. Currently in his workshop, his officers from the day prior continued with their projects. Stephens hadn’t bothered to show up. He couldn’t be happier—now he could use his space for his own work.

The timing of his injury was unfortunate, as he had difficulty moving without discomfort. Instead of wanting it to be obvious, he had decided to focus on logging for the day. Typing away at his screen with one hand, he looked over to the officers every once in a while.

“There are a number of self defense courses both with living teachers and holo-programs. Major K’alena teaches Marine Combat Techniques. And Security Teaches the proper usage of weaponry utilized on board.”

“You can also be taught Vulcan pressure point manipulation by a Vulcan or a Holo image. It depends on what you wish to learn. There are over a thousand different Martial art forms available on the holo suites. Or here in your Quarters or your office.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

She annotated some of her writings while keeping some focus on Dark Fire’s response. “Could you instead tell me what the top five most efficient martial arts are for someone of my skill level and see if any live person could teach them to me? When their schedules allow it, of course. I am interested in that weaponry education and pressure point manipulation as well, in the same manner.”

“With that being said,” she sat up and exhaled, “please connect me to our guest.”

Stardate 29870527.0830
“Martial Arts are not rated by efficiency as each individual art has it’s own style and methodology. Commander Reeves uses a mixture of Klingon, Vulcan, and MACO combat forms. Captain Hora is a boxing champion. Major K’alena uses Klingon Martial Arts and has achieved a Master Rating.”

“Dr. L'Sa T’Ker T’Gahn is the instructor for the Kyusho Jitsu Forms. Which is the Pressure Point form of the Vulcan’s.”

“First Lieutenant Jovovich taught the weapons course before his promotion. I have not been informed of a change in that position.”

When he was done speaking Dark Fire activated the holo emitters and produced the Alien Parasite before her.

It did not appear to have moved since she last spoke with it.

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

“Good day, we are currently on our eight hour with thirty minutes. As I’ve mentioned previously, my name is Dr. Marlowe.”

She deliberated for a moment. “I find it necessary to inform you that this will be the last time I attempt to communicate with you. I have an array of other responsibilities to occupy myself with than unproductive conversations. When you are no longer under my jurisdiction, I cannot assure what might or might not happen to you, nor will I intervene.”

“If you have any last unique inquiries or thoughts to share, this is your opportunity,” Xiana stressed, adjusting her glasses.

Stardate 29870527.0830

How many worlds are yours? Where are they?” The Parasite repeated. It’s head moving as it looked at her, red eyes burning with hate. “You will be eliminated. You will be subsumed. The Star Gods awaken.”

“Your infestation will be eradicated. The worlds will return to us.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

“I take the term ‘unique’ must be lost in your species’ jargon,” Xiana answered. She wasn’t taking notes this time around, at least not in the creature’s presence.

“Your Star Gods will not save you, as they will not affect me. Your Star Gods have left you. You functioned in vain. Your life will come to end with no purpose served and no legacy contributed to your species.”

“But frankly, if that’s what you crave, so be it,” she chimed nonchalantly. “Saves me some paperwork.”

“It’s difficult to find seriousness in threats from a being so…. fragile. Despite your mechanisms and abilities, here you are. Still. Empty. Is that why your Star Gods have left you? Because you are a failure?”

Stardate 29870527.0835

“The stars have grown cold during the long sleep. The Star Gods have awakened us. Eradicate you we will. Exterminate the infestation of flesh.”

“To serve is our desire. To live forever our goal.” And then it mimicked a human mannerism of rocking it’s head side to side, like it was stretching the neck. Or popping it free from tension.

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

“And when you fail… there will be nothing. Nothing to show for your Star Gods. Nothing for them to continue with. One by one, they’ll cease to exist, until a mention of your species is nothing short of a memory.”

“You do not succeed in serving, you will not live forever either. Such a waste of abilities is a species so… pathetic,” she lamented.

Stardate 29870527.0840

Shifting form the entity mimiced Tyrande again his red/black eyes staring at her as it tilted it’s head like it was considering something. Or listening.

And then it smiled with his triangular shark-like teeth, a smile that said ‘I’m going to devour you alive’.

“I was born bornfore your species was a bacterium. I will live when your world is ash.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

Xiana inhaled quietly. The sight made her heart race. She worked to remained composed. She wouldn’t allow this creature to disturb her… as close as it was.

“That must be shameful, then,” she retorted. “Such a vast amount of time and not much to show for it. At most, an elongated demise of your kind.”

Stardate 29870527.0845

“We were old when the Aeldari spawned on their world. A blink of time before they touched the stars. We eradicate them as we eradicate you.”

“We have the time we need to eradicate all infestations.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

“Your species’ closeness to the human psyche is larger than you’d think,” she replied. “It seems both of you are fond of lying to yourselves for the sake of your own comfort.”

“It seems we’re speaking in circles, and as I mentioned I did not seek to waste any more time. Prior to disconnecting this call, is there anything else you’d like to share?”

Stardate 29870527.0850

Reforming into a little girl the entity looked at her with that same evil hate filled grin. “You’re all going to die,” it said softly. “I will watch the Galaxy burn.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

“If your species is this mediocre in being menacing, then I’m not worried,” she closed, asking Dark Fire to disconnect the call. Once in silence, she did her note taking, going over every aspect of their conversation. Retrieving some additional details was helpful in a way, but she wondered if it was enough. One thing was certain; she truly didn’t think she could get anything else from the creature. Whatever happened to it was out of her hands now.

She couldn’t help but be discouraged that the parasite didn’t pose any alternative approaches. Xiana didn’t want to believe some beings were purely evil. By the looks of it, she didn’t have a choice. “Dark Fire, could you disclose to the rest of the department heads that I’ve concluded my work with the parasite?”
