USS Dark Fire (IC)

Hora

Another small victory she told herself, Commander Reeves was willing to go with her plan. Put his career on the line. She was surprised. Maybe her plan was logical? That was a scary thought! She reached out and took a pull of her Raktajino.

“Ahhhh” she commented. She loved Raktajino or Klingon coffee. She set her cup back down.

“Yes, we’ll send a shuttle through… I’m thinking I should be on it. I know it is against protocol, but one of us should be on that shuttle… and you are married. I have no one.”

“Captain, you can’t go. It’s against regulations for a Captain to intentionally place themselves into a dangerous situation.”

“As a Combat trained Officer I am the logical choice. My marital status has no effect on the volunteer status.”

“We can easily send A Security officer with any other bridge crew member.”

Yito:

Walking up to the bar Yito rested the Data Slate on the surface between her and Araiza.

“You left this in the testing area,” she said. “The Command staff request for items,” she added after a pause.

1) Gravimetric Grenades.

2) Isokinetic Cannon.

3) Psionic resonator to disrupt communication between the separate parts.

“Are you alright?” She asked. “You leaned on the counter earlier and that’s not typical of your behavior.”

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

“Jesus Christ, Seja,” Araiza said, startled. He must’ve been too lost in his thoughts.

He quickly took the data slate, taking a deep breath while he went over the new assignments. He’d ask questions in better lighting. “Thanks for bringing it, but next time wait until I’m somewhere where there aren’t idiots daydrinking around.”

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you don’t know me well enough to know my typical behavior.”

Stardate 29870605.1220

Yito:
“I don’t understand why an idiots drinking habits have anything do with anything, and the tablet is refractive so only the person in front of it can read it.” She replied before nodding.

“You’re right, I only know the observed behaviors, one of which is you are rude and impolite to everyone around you as if you wish to be the sandpaper they cut themselves on.”

“And I made the comment because you have not leaned on anything in the time that I have known you, and I was trying to find a reason to remain and talk. But you only wish to continue your rude behavior.”

“Next time you leave the data slate somewhere, I'll leave it there. Good day,” she said as she turned to leave.

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

The male rolled his eyes, turning in his stool. “I wasn’t being rude! What the hell is rude about answering honestly? What else am I supposed to say?”

He didn’t think he was rude. Blunt, maybe. Intense, perhaps, but he normally saved his attitude when he found it necessary. He got along with plenty of people just fine, and he wasn’t about to readjust solely because of one person’s input. “You’re killing me, woman.”

Stardate 29870605.1225

Yito:
“You are blunt to the point of being Rude. You refuse to recognize rank, respect, or curtesy. You take offense when none is intended, and get angry when others make mistakes, because it inconveniences you.”

“Vulcans have more respect, are politer, and are less rude than you.” Raising an eyebrow she looked him over. “No, I am not killing you. Nor am I injuring you.”

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

All Araiza could do was roll his eyes. He was too tired to argue, and frankly, too unimpressed. He nodded a thank you to the bartender and got out of his seat. Maybe this was his sign to stop frequenting the Red Section.

“Think whatever you want,” he said lowly, not offering as much as a glance to Yito as he headed to the exit.

Stardate 29870605.1225

Yito:
“Prime, example,” she said as she walked passed him and out the door, turning to walk down the passage as quickly as possible. “Obstinate… Bastard!” she said, unable to find another word to express what she was feeling.

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

“Hey, if that’ll keep you from kissing me in front of my officers when I already said I didn’t wanna pursue anything, I’ll take it,” he called out. He could feel his head starting to hurt. Had it been that hard to just have a cup of water to himself?

He didn’t see a flaw in his behavior. Frankly, he’d rather die than have to force himself to be considerate when he didn’t feel that sincerity. Those at his level earned that respect. Hell, some of his officers had.

Stardate 29870605.1230

Yito:
“I wasn’t pursuing anything,” she said stopping to yell at him as several people stepped out of the way between them, this was the red section, which to most people meant the blood was gonna fly sooner or later.

“I just wanted to know what it was like to kiss someone!” Grinding her teeth she snapped.

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

“I don’t care about the reason!” Araiza continued. He couldn’t believe this was how he was spending his break. “You don’t do that shit!”

Stardate 29870605.1235

Yito:
“Don’t worry! It will never happen again! I’d rather kiss a Ferengi, they’d be better at it.!”

◅ ALFREDO ARAIZA ▻

“Probably! Pro tip: if they kiss back, it means they wanted it! Glad that’s cleared,” he grinned sarcastically, finding his way out of the Red Section, stepping angrily back to his department. He should’ve just gotten the liquor.

Hora

Hora thought for a moment. She loved to break the rules. She thought she should go. But Reeves was right, he was more qualified. Also the protocol was in place because of past mistakes made by senior officers.

“Ok, you are going. Do you want Lt Sol as your body guard?” She asked. She took another sip of her Klingon coffee. It was good. She needed to visit the Commander’s office more often.

Stardate 29870605.1230

“Sure, I’ll take him along.” Reeves replied. He wouldn’t have Chosen the lizard himself, but it was the Captain suggesting it. Besides with him not on board maybe he wouldn’t find out about the Captains indiscretions.

And there were a lot. So many he’d stopped writing reports unless they involved people immediately under her in the Chain-of-Command.

The others he just made a note of it in his files. He really didn’t want to know the details either.

L’Sa:
Ensuring the Doctor had no clients at the moment L’Sa stopped by her office. She hadn’t heard of a decision by the counselor. She was hoping to have an answer, and a chance to speak with Jordan, before her birthday.

Pon’Farr would be an acceptable time to get pregnant, and would be pleasurable.

Tapping the door chime she waited until told to enter then walked in, her silver-white skin suit molded to her body, ensuring she was warm enough on the ship which was kept at Human level of comfort. But was rather cold to her.

Hora

“Good! Well, I’m taking the USS Dark Fire through the wormhole as soon as we finish the mining operation. We’ll be ready to assist you if you run into trouble. Just call for help. You should go as soon as possible. Get you kissing and crying over with… and get out of here. Oops… never mind, I’m sure Dr L’Sa is not the kissing or crying type. Anyhow, Good Luck!” Captain said as she finished her coffee.

She got up and listen to Commander Reeves departing comments. Then she departed and headed for the bridge.

As she arrived, she took control of deck. “Bridge team commence mining operations. Science officer, I want a status on our efforts to find the right frequency to close that wormhole.”

Lt Sol

Lt Sol hurried to the shuttle bay. He had given Loka a gentle hug and head rub, before hurrying out of her stateroom. He’d grabbed a few weapons for the weapons locker and then directly to the shuttle bay. As he entered the bay, he reviewed all the people he had apologized to for his bad behavior at the captain’s breakfast. Everyone had received an apology. All accepted his apologizes, except Commander Reeves and the Counselor. He was hoping both of them had forgiven him, but had just not informed him.

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

Xiana had just finished storing the last of what had been Scuti’s enclosure under some drawers, the mouse nowhere to be found. Luckily, the messy aspects were much earlier and she could trust her hands were still clean. “Hello, take a seat,” she said, motioning to her chair before walking to her own desk and doing the same.

“I assume this is about the baby. I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, I’ve had more appointments as of recent,” she explained, placing her hands neatly on the table.

Stardate 29870605.1235

L’Sa:
“Yes, about the child.” Dr. L’Sa acknowledged as she looked at the empty space where the counselors mouse had been. “There is no need to apologize. It is logical that there would be an increase in need for your abilities after the memorial for the fallen. The services were quite exceptional in there dignity, respect, and solace. If it was not expressed before there is gratitude and appreciation for what you arranged.”

“I’m sure your colleges are busy as well with the security staff and their grief.”

“May I ask where the rodent is? Was it finally of sufficient size for consumption?”

Stardate 29870605.1235

Reeves:
The shuttle slid out of the Dark Fire smooth as a whisper in the night under the Commander’s control. Once clear the massive ship the shuttle sped forward at sublight speed before it entered the worm hole.

The passage was dizzying in the light patterns and appearance of the ‘tunnel’ as it seemed to roll and twist. When the Dark Fire went through, he’d recommend view screens off.

The Travel took some time but when the emerged on the far side it was a bit of a relief.

Scanning for the probe, Reeves laid in a course to reach it. They’d collect the probe and continue the observation of the far side. And they’d download the data from the probe to calculate where in the Andromeda Galaxy they were.

“Set the computer to record all interstellar data, Please, Mr. Sol.”

◅ XIANA MARLOWE ▻

Of consumption? “He’s a pet, I don’t have any plans to feed him to another creature. He wasn’t enjoying all the light in the office, and considering I spend most of my day here I went ahead and relocated it to my home. That way he’ll be cozy in the dark when I’m not there.”

“I appreciate those comments, thank you,” Xiana continued. She pressed her lips into a thin line before proceeding. “But returning to the child. I do believe you can adapt your environment for a baby. Frankly, that wasn’t ever my concern, although I understand it’s protocol.”

Mining Operation

“Captain why are we using the older ALH 84001 type mines?” Lt Harris asked

“Because they are surplus and we need to use them up.” Hora replied which was not totally true, but true enough.

“How do they work?” Lt Harris asked

“Each mine is cloaked and extremely small, no more than a meter across, which prevented advanced sensors from detecting them. More importantly, the mines are equipped with a replicator unit, such as that every mine that is detonated or deactivated will be immediately replaced by its neighbor. The mines are programmed to swarm-detonate, to compensate for their small size.” Hora explained

“That sounds nasty and hard to get remove” Lt Harris observed. He was also observing his Captain. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. “Minefield is 36% deployed” He added

“Good” Hora replied. She was in a hurry to join Commander Reeves in the Andromeda galaxy.

Lt Sol

“Computers are recording” Lt Sol replied “The sensors are confirming what we have observed from our galaxy. Andromeda is slightly larger and contains more stars than the Milky Way. Andromeda's supermassive central black hole is 20 times larger than the Milky Way's. And Andromeda contains about one trillion stars, compared to the Milky Way's 300 billion stars.” Lt Sol told Commander Reeve.

“This is interesting, it was thought new star formation was lower in Andromeda, but sensors are detecting a much large number on new stars… they are just smaller and cooler than in our galaxy.”

He paused as they approached the probe.

Bridge Science Officer:

“Captain, we’re having trouble finding the frequency of the worm hole. It’s going to take some time, and we don’t know how long. Maybe a day or two.”

L’Sa:

“Ah, a pet. I had a Sehlat when I was a child, from five until fourteen. If you find comfort in the creature, you can place a blanket, towel, or other item over the cage to reduce the light. That way it will be here and comfort you.”

“I understand you still need to assess me psychologically, but I am unsure how that will take place.”

Stardate 29870605.1235

Reeves:
“Mapping in progress, trying to determine our location in the Galaxy.” Reeves replied as he switched to the Probes data. “Tractor beams locked on the probe, and it’s attached to the shuttle.”

“No stars. No Planets. No Ships within our vicinity.” Reeves commented. “Time to go back.”
