LOL indeed...you have to keep us interested....I have to agree with dumpling...it would be a shame to take interest from your vacation...I know it was an grand adventure!!! And we get to share! :nana:

We left Maribor and headed toward Austria...following the signs toward Wien.........I had no clue...finally I asked how far to Vienna.....she was laughing at me......they're the same silly............

We rolled in to Vienna with no clue where we were going to stay.....made a few wrong turns but knew we wanted to be near the underground........

Turned a corner and there was the most beautiful palace and a block a way........a three star hotel........with Vacancies....

no, Shoenbrunn wasn't the hotel...it was the Hapsburg's hunting lodge........that's right, this is where they came to get away from the Royal Palace in Vienna.....along with a retinue of 1500 hangers on.....not servants...but court followers!!!!!

This is fabulous George

heh.... you have started in a big way...and with lots of great pics...
and with the comentary from both you and Phoenix...it is becomming a great travel-logue.

I can hardly wait for it to continue. I made it to Europe a couple of years back..but most of my pictures...except the ones still in the camera were on mini CD's. which got damaged in my luggage :( so I don't have much left except for my memories.

You had an opportunity to visit so many places...this is gonna be a great thread.

Thanks El; it was your inspiration that started this.

We walked through a very large public garden, as it was Sunday people were out enjoying the spring day............not quite blooming yet

Did you see the zig zag of the upper Garden........

The Royals were concerned with being out in the public.......So all the court would dress up in their best; hook the massive carriages up to matched horses and ride up and down the garden in front of the king and queen, there would be hundreds of these things going back and forth.........what fun!!!!!

:D

Not to mention the huge park and different gardens also left and right from the palace. Part of the estate is a zoo, too.

Ms P took pictures of some of the interior........not supposed to; but her comment was we paid........

LOL

Considering there were lights on, the cam's flash could't do a damage to the painted ceiling. Otherwise it's not allowed to take pics in the palace and also in other places because of the frescos. :)

After walking through the palace I had to rest. MY feet and leg hurt something fierce.......

As an aside........when I returned home and went for my checkup, my doctor laughed and said " we fixed up that leg so you could walk, not go traipsing over hill and dale and all those long walks"

I am way too old to do zoos.....leave that to Tommie......:D

We stopped at a corner pub that evening........same the world around..........the locals looked at this yankee and waitress was not so friendly............

but food was good and price was right............all we asked for!!!!!!!

I was looking back through the pictures and saw I had missed this one.......such a good shot I had to add it......These are the steps leading away from Miramare in Triesste......so much detail........

Maximillan was a favorite at the Hapsburg court, son of an archduke and brother of an Emperor .........this small palace was so different from the court in Vienna!!! I say small; compared to the others we went to see it was a three bedroom ranch :D
