Lucy was finally able to sit down after 3 long hours of standing, waiting in the airport lobby. 'Nothing's ever easy.' She thought emitting a loud sigh as she relaxed into the spongy softness of the standard class seating. They had been made to walk though first class as they boarded the plane and Scott, Lucy's son, Had made an effort to point out how comfortable the seats looked. Lucy felt a little ashamed that she couldn't afford to buy her son luxury seats but almost all of her savings were blown on the vacation alone. She had only booked the 3 star hotel they were traveling to for 1 week and she barely had enough money left to pay for their food over the 7 days. She hoped that Scott didn't expect to go on any day trips because Lucy would be unable to fund it.
However, Scott didn't seem like he wanted to do anything fun involving his mother. He didn't say more than 5 words to Lucy on the way to the airport and he had spent most of their waiting time playing video games on his Nintendo DS. Lucy's fear of growing apart from her son had been confirmed by his actions. She had booked the holiday especially to spend some quality time with her son before he moved away for collage. Once he had left Lucy would be alone. Scott's father had left well before he was born and Lucy was forced to raise the child by her self. Since Scott was in diapers Lucy had been struggling to make ends meet with her mediocre check-out clerk day job.
Some how she had managed to scrape together the money to finance a brief holiday for them both and as they entered the sunlight of Spain after leaving the airport she felt as if all her suffering was worth it. Meanwhile, Scott hadn't looked up from the screen of his DS and he wondered, zombie-like behind his mother as they boarded the coach to their hotel. Once again, Lucy had to sit in silence next to her son whilst he numbed his brain staring at the digital screen, not even glancing at the beautiful, rolling Spanish scenery passing his window. The bus pulled up to the entrance of the hotel and Lucy dragged Scott off. She had to carry all of their bags up to their room on the 3rd floor which took several, hard trips. Panting and holding the final bag, Scott's bag, she struggled into their shared room and dropped the case, sweat glistening all over her neck and chest.
Scott had taken to sprawling out on the only bed in the room, a small single next to the window. Lucy eyed a small sofa in the opposite corner and accepted it as her sleeping area for the duration of the trip. She sat on the battered sofa to get a feel for it. She could feel the hard, uneven cushions uncomfortable under her butt and she knew that there would be no room for her to lie down without her legs hanging over the side. Never the less, she sucked in her annexed and turned to her son, smiling.
"So sweety, You like it so far?" Scott eyes were still glued to the screen of his DS but Lucy noticed that the light indicating power on the side of the device was glowing red. She knew he only had minutes of game time left. Unfortunately, when she was packing her sons bag for him she had 'accidentally' forgot to pack his charger. Without his video games he would be forced to bond with his mother during this trip weather he liked it or not.
