Hello all.

I need to rent a van for a cross country trip next May and need to get a clue about the price. I am guessing a couple of weeks. How much do I need to start budgeting for?

Thanks.

I have never rented a van, so... this is the best advice I have for you...since no one else has replied, yet...

most car rental places have websites that will list a quote for you... or they will have an 800# in the phone book... and call early... sometimes, if you call while early, if they are running a promo (free weekends or something of the sort) by booking early, you can lock in the price and the promo. the rental places expect people to call for rates without actually booking... so don't feel bad about just calling for price qoutes.

try hertz, budget rental, avis... look in your yellow pages to see what is local and do a google search for their site. remember that things like... Sam's Club memberships or AAA memberships can help get you discounts...

Why a van?

A couple of years ago, I rented a nine-passenger van for a week -- it ran about $1,000 after the milage was added in.

If youdon't need the pasenger comfort, a small to medium Ryder or Budget truck is cheaper than a passenger van.

I'm not sure that they have in your state but here; you must be 25 years old or more to even rent. Second you have to have a credit card ready that should be able to handle the full amount of the rental. They are not cheap by the way. The best rates around here are Entrerprse rent a car. WIth an economy car you can get 35. a day plus all the taxes plus the insurance. Unless you have full coverage on your personal car; you can get away with not buying extra insurance. That is about 55. a day with the works.
A van lets say a ford winstar will cost you about 100. a day with the works. However it will run you more if you use it just for fun. If you say you need the van for work they will give you unlimited miles. This is ussally for a short term rental. If you want it for a week or more they will give you x miles a day. If you go over you have to pay .35 a mile plus the taxes to the state.
Hertz sometimes runs a special and you can get some good rates.
Anyway you slice this you will be paying a good amount of money. Best thing to do is use your own car or borrow.
