Victoria's Secret going kinky?

*blinks*

This never occurred to me before, ever.

I have heard of bra extenders, of course, but it never occurred to me to use one.

*jaw drops*

You're welcome. :D

I had to buy some when I started growing as a kid. My boobs popped out to C cups at like, 12... and then the rest of me grew but my boobs stayed, so I had to buy some bra extenders rather than buy a bunch of new bras since I no longer fit width-wise. I haven't had to use them since, since I've stayed a 38, but it seems in your situation they'd be perfect... since it's not that your CUP size is abnormal, it's just your ribcage. Now, if you were a H32, life might be a lot harder.

But for this, well... pretty bras away!

And eeeeegads I cannot even FATHOM spending 350 dollars on a bra set. Now granted, I tend to wear my 20 dollar bras until they fall to pieces approximately 5 years later... so if I could get twentysome years use out of it, yeah, I guess... maybe... no. I won't even spend that much on a dress. I don't own any item of clothing worth more than 100 dollars (though I'd consider for shoes or a dress and coats) and it won't be underthings! I am cheap! I could buy my new tablet for that! Three days wages to cover my boobs? I'll go braless for that!

Though my current bras are falling apart due to wearing them for... oh, egads, it's probably been six years for the one I'm wearing... so if I do find an expensive bra that fits me well and looks nice and provides the support I need I'll shell out the money for it.

(thinks) Maybe I'll just learn to make bras.

Err...ummm....DAMN!! That was impressive!
Thank you!

So, what are the high end brands?

Moderate vendors are companies like Chantelle, Simone Perele, Freya, Fantasie, Fauve.

I'm particularly partial to Aubade, Empreinte, Lise Charmel, Marie Jo...

But you have to understand that A) I'm in the industry, and B) I may only be a 32D, but I have [very common] challenges and issues that make it difficult for your average $20 bra to fit properly

Lingerie impacts how every article of clothing you own hangs on your body. It touches you 12-18 hours a day, and $100+ lingerie is simply more comfortable and harder wearing than something I can grab for $12 at Target because the quality of materials is better.

A bra is dead once you can stretch the back band more than 2" from the ribcage. At that point it's no longer doing it's job and needs to be thrown away. If a woman owns 3 cheap $20bras (US average), they will be dead in 3-6 months and need to be replaced - assuming she hand washes, in lingerie soap and never puts them in the dryer. I currently own 18 sets (bras costing from $108 - $205 each), the oldest of which is almost 2 years old, I'm still on the first hook, haven't needed alterations yet, and expect them to last another 2 years before I absolutely have to replace them.

If a woman spends $20 per bra, buys 3 at a time, and replaces them 4 times a year, she drops roughly $720 on lingerie over the course of 3 years that isn't as comfortable, supportive, or hard wearing as if she invests that $720 in 7 *good* bras (@ $100 each) that fit perfectly, takes care of them/has the back band altered down as it stretches out/etc - she gets 3 years worth of wear out of a more comfortable, harder wearing, often prettier product. It sounds like a lot of money, but it isn't really any more expensive... My stuff's more expensive because I only wear matching sets (prissy me), and I'm meticulously picky about my lingerie... because I own more vintage and modern lingerie than clothing. LOL

Love Aubade! I am not in the industry and I agree with Cutie. Not that you need as many sets or anything, but a well-made bra makes a huge difference in how your clothes fit. I admit to being a bit of a shopping whore in the past (am really quite reformed now, promise), and though I've all but given that up, I still won't do cheap bras.

As far as how often you need to replace them - a saleswoman at the shop I went to told me every six months, although she did say if you had multiple pairs and rotated them, took care in washing, etc., you could get more out of one. Still, that's tough if you're buying really pricey ones. What do you think Cutie?

Lol, Victoria's Secret is a splurge for me. I find their bras fit me really well, though tbh. But no way am I dropping more than $30 on a bra. I've got more important things to buy... like food. :p

And to make you cringe: I wear my cheapies for several years too!

If you don't have enough (read: < 4, bare minimum), replace them every 6 months/shop someplace that offers free alterations.

And KP I'm about to hit a similar wall. Things have been restructured, and a lot of my perks are less perky than they used to be. :( Plus I'm moving into my own home next month (read: yay higher cost of living!)... but I still won't wear cheap bras/panties, snob that I am. LOL [budget budget; save save]

Yeah, it's just a matter of priorities. There are things I will spend on... (art supplies~!) but hoh boy do I know the saving routine! Sucks when you get used luxuries and you can't go without them when it might be better that you should. xD

ugh.. surprised you put simone Perle in there. I loathe the bras from that company. badly fitting, nasty materials and horrible designs.

I think that unless you really are an outsize size then it makes little difference as long as it's a reasonably good company. I'd buy an M&S bra for £25 than one from Perele for even less if they were that cheap and I'm a bog standard 36B.

I have bras from La Perla which, whilst looking more beautiful than most others, fit no differently and wore out just as fast (and no... I never machine wash. All my bras are washed by hand in mild soap). Same with Myla, agent provocateur, janet Reger etc.

basically if you are huge, you need a decent company, but for more average gals, then high street quality will do fine.

(as a caveat, I also collect vintage foundation gear and they are really made of much much sterner stuff than modern lingerie. I regularly wear bras by Vassarelle etc which are waaaay older than me!)

Simone Perele lace holds up better than their spacer foams, but for women who want extra comfy/stretchy it's an option. :)

It isn't necessarily an issue of being "huge". Finding bras size 32 or smaller is just as much of a a pain in the ass as it is to find anything over the typical America "DD" cup; I'm finally a semi-normal size, but when I was a 32C it was impossible to find anything at all.

I collect vintage lingerie as well, and always get a chuckle out of women who think Spanx are too firm... they've obviously never worn power net! LOL

When I was retail-spoiled and had my run of bras, I found I liked Chantelle the most. I'm an uncomplicated 38B when fat, 34almostB when thin.

Admittedly the Aubade/Lise designs at the time were all these really skimpy ones and thongs that are 90 dollars for a piece of nylon, which I don't do.

*beerspew*

VS undies are so dull I can't imagine why anyone would buy them as anything other than just every day period pants style stuff.

Because I really like the slippery feel of the seamless ones. A lot. The rest of the store can vanish, but those 3 for 30 seamless briefs are awesome.

Sorry, panties are to me what bras are to some people. Cheap scratchy shit (or way overpriced in the case of La Perla) going up my crack all day is a no can do.

I think that I am shopping challenged....I have never encountered one of those brands, ever.

Now, I don't really think the VS bras fit me very well at all - I still have big boobs even after a reduction. But I got an awesome 'ooh where have you been shopping' response when I took off my top and revealed a sexy plunging hot pink and black bra underneath. That was awesome.

Now, because I'm not stupid, if I search those names and find retailer near me I will probably go, get fitted and buy one bra and see what it's like to have a good bra.

ugh, bra shopping. There's nothing like trying on dozens of bras, finally settling on a style that fits..buying several of them..and then the damn wires poke through the fabric in three weeks. Just once I'd like to buy a bra and not have the the wires poke through!

HOW THE HELL DO YOURS LAST SO LONG??? I swear you have like a magic bra fairy that repairs your bras, because mine fall apart in a year to two years.

I thought the gnomes took care of stuff like that?:D
Is it just me or do they look like twins?

Inasmuch as they're standard porn blondes, yeah...otherwise, not really.

Was it gnomes? Whoa so where do i buy a few? XD

I cant tell the diff. They all look like blonde bimbos to me (i know a few intelligent beautiful people but it seems that the prettier a person gets the less intelligent they feel they need to be. perhaps their personal preference? *shrugs*)

CutieMouse, I really want to believe everything you say, but being a male (and you know how males are very visual beings), I can only say that pictures are necessary.

It's not even just a male thing. It's matter of human curiosity, pure and simple.

(I think that sounded genuine. :D)

Something that fits properly (meaning stretched to about 90% of the elasticity in order to support from the ribs), that is worn frequently (more than twice a week), is not designed to last more than 1-2 years; it's like a rubber band that stretches out. And honestly, even if you only drop $100 per year on bras (say 5 bras X $20 each), do you [general you] really feel like you aren't worth more than $100 a year? For stuff that you wear right next to your skin, 12-18 hours a day? Stuff that gets perfume, body oil, deodorant, sweat, etc on it?

But I gave you boys pictures in the linky thingies I supplied in my list of yummie EU lingerie companies!

That you did. But those were promotional materials, heavily airbrushed and retouched. :D
We are asking for the genuine article (of lingerie...of course :D)

Wellllll I do FEEL worth more but my wallet and bank account say otherwise

(So tempted to be a smart ass and post a picture of a pile of lingerie on the bed...)

I dare you (CutieMouse) to do just that. Of course it may just be considered obnoxious but it would also be fun :3
