I was at dinner tonight with a small group of friends. While we were talking about the Crowley/Gates incident, one of the women was more adamant than everyone else in criticizing the officer's failure to acknowledge why the professor responded the way he did. In explaining her position, she relayed a story about a time when she accidentally left her credit card on a department store counter, while doing some Christmas shopping late at night.

Walking across the nearly-deserted parking lot, she was approached by a male, running behind her. She whipped around, froze in fear as he came nearer, and then regained her composure enough to rake her keys across his face, drawing blood. Both she, and the guy, started screaming.

"GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU BASTARD!"

"YOU FUCKING BITCH! LOOK WHAT YOU DID!"

Mutual screaming continued, until people from inside the store ran out to intervene. Turns out, the guy was running to return the credit card she had forgotten - an actual good Samaritan type. Even after she understood this, she kept yelling at him. Finally, the guy regained his composure enough to speak more calmly, though he was still livid.

"Lady. I was trying to help you. Why the hell did you attack me like that? Do I look like a rapist to you?"

"Mister. In a deserted parking lot at night, all men look like rapists to me. Especially the ones who come running."

Good example and I think the gut reaction of most people would be to paint your friend as violent and irresponsible, but in another circumstance her actions could have saved her life. I'm not sure if I would have responded the same way, but I, too, consider all men a potential threat when it's dark and I'm alone - that's called survival.

My friend, MD, had an incident at work, (we worked together in the film industry), where a job was given to a white woman instead of her, which she was positive was racially motivated. Everyone else was skeptical and a few of her co-workers were openly hostile about it. Nevertheless, she pursued a legal avenue and was proven correct. The guilty parties apologized and MD was given the financial compensation she was due.

I think unless you've experienced racism, on a fairly consistent basis, it's all but impossible to understand the level of frustration and anger it generates. (I say this in reference to the Crowley/Gates case, not this thread).

White people have everything handed to them....Blacks work harder, fight harder to get the same things....and then racist cops treat black professionals like crooks...and get surprised when black people get mad...wow.

Don't know if you have the expression over there "to have a chip on one's shoulder"?

I must say I have never seen anyone so "chippy" in all my life as the OP. He really needs to grow up.

So to sum it up:
Your complaint is that the black people didn't get their share of the wealth that was stolen. You are really a guide for your people.
