[technical bit] Well, I quarantined it and Meta helped me check there weren't any other parts and that it hadn't done anything nasty. Apparently my bad habit of leaving the machine running all the time helped me out as it hadn't registered...I knew being a slut would pay off at some point Not that kind of slut!!

Well, I got ZoneAlarms free firewall, but that was blocking internet access. I finally managed to figure it all out myself this morning, so I think I am all sorted - talk about a crash course in internet security! It's scary to see all the attempts to get into my computer though

I realise I'm very dim when it comes to these things and you all probably know a lot more than me, but if you're of very little brain in these areas too, make sure you get the free firewall from ZoneAlarm, and make sure your antivirus package is up to date. I just had the Norton antivirus that came with my machine and which I renewed and updated, but had no firewall. I'll never make that mistake again. And it was my Norton that found the trojan after hours rather than days, so it didn't have time to wreak havok I think. [/technical bit]
