Virtual Bar/Coffee Shop: USA and Beyond

Happy Saturday. Born in queens. Live on the Long Island. Usually travel into nyc couple times a month and hand in some Irish pub with friends or family. Miss seeing people and nyc. I retired very young so I'm trained on doing home stuff but I really need to be out and about. Don't know when but looking forward my return to nyc. Anyone up for a Guinness someday?

We grill just about anything and everything. Steaks, chicken, burgers, ribs, pork chops, Italian sausages.

I’ll even grill bacon wrapped shrimp and asparagus.

As for wines, I’m a dry red fan, Cabernets, Merlot, Syrah for starters. Wife is totally opposite. She likes sweeter wines, favorites being the North Carolina scuppernong grapes. She also loves Riesling and Viognier.

This afternoon, we crossed the state line and were able to eat outside for our daughter’s birthday. Burger and beer never tasted so good! It was chilly, so I had a porter from a South Carolina brewery that isn’t available here. Really good!

That sounds delicious! Nothing like a fresh grilled steak or Italian sausages. And we need the recipe for the bacon wrapped shrimp and asparagus!

The birthday celebration with your daughter sounds lovely. I'm a fan of porters in the winter and lighter beers in the summer.

I prefer dry wines too. Usually red in the winter and white in the summer.

There are normally so many to choose from. Eammon's Bar & Grill in midtown was fun. Good food, drinks and reasonably price.

Who knows when restaurants will reopen?

I took a couple of days off from work. Today, I'm doing nothing!!! Currently sipping some Prosecco mixed with lime and clementine juice. Groceries have been delivered. Going to read something on my Kindle. Maybe I will finish Transcription by Kate Atkinson.

Last novel I read before that was Severance by Ling Ma. I read it pre-COVID, so it was really weird to see life imitate art.

Walked to our local coffee shop this morning and now it's already lunchtime. Avocado toast with PB & Egg and a can of Arizona tea. I've got to be to work in 3 hours and I really don't feel like going.

Sounds like a tasty breakfast! Hope work went well and was safe. I'm not looking forward to commuting when I need to start doing that again.

Another lazy day, drinking a local Blood Orange IPA. Finished Transcription by Kate Atkinson and read Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker. Both interesting in their own way.

Spent my day doin a whole lot of not much. Pinned a shirt that needs resizing. Pinned a dress I wanna alter. Watched a bunch of dance videos on youtube. Listened to a variety of songs in between, played a few words with friends games, some online casino games, a whole bunch of sittin on my arse. Sunday. Yep.

Bacon wrapped shrimp is very easy.

I usually do it at the beach where we can get fresh shrimp almost off the boat.

I use a cookie sheet and either spray it or rub butter on it.

Cut the bacon in half.

Wrap each shrimp with the half strip of bacon. If you want, stick a toothpick through the shrimp for the bacon to stay in place. Other thing it does is if the bacon sticks to the sheet, you don’t have an empty shrimp and have to wrap after its all cooked. Doesn’t taste differently, just presents better.

Put the wrapped shrimp on the sheet directly on the grill.

It only takes a few minutes to start seeing the wrapped shrimp sizzle. Start flipping them, because by the time you get to the last one, the first one is almost done.

If the flame is right, it should only take 7-9 minutes, tops.

Pairs great with a Dogfish Head Seaquench or a light white wine.

Bacon wrapped asparagus is the same principle.

Other nice thing to try is wrap corn with bacon, wrap all in aluminum foil, and put on the grill. Done right, don’t need butter for your corn on the cob.

Now that South Carolina is open, we can actually go out to eat normally again. Still a ride over the border, but so worth it.

Sounds productive & relaxing!

Those sound good! I don't think we're looking at dining in restaurants until later this summer. You can get pick up & delivery though.

I go back to work tomorrow. Today I had a doctor's appointment. Then picked up some food.

Being lazy the rest of the day. Sipping a summer ale.

I'm living down in south Louisiana. Me and wifie are both retired. We are stuck at home, but are NOT bored with each other. We would rather be living our old life, but we are adapting to our new life.

We are able to get outside without coming into contact with anybody. I only come in contact with people at the grocery store.

However, here in Louisiana, most everyone thinks the pandemic is over. It's business as usual for most folks. I prefer to sit isolated and wait this out.
