Yes, I was there, twice. But there kept being some behind the scenes maneuvering that ended up making it sort of difficult to stay interested in it, I'm afraid.

My two cents....

Although I write under one nickname, there is at least one person I know who writes with several nicknames. It was a disappointing surprise when I realized that a few people (nicknames) in a thread had the exact same writing style. When I confronted the player he reluctantly acknowledged he had three different names in the thread which had a distorting effect on the story.

The frustrating more recent realisation, is that I believe he uses his multiple nicknames to vote down threads. I think an example of this is Cold Mountain. Miletone is doing an awesome writing job. There are only a few votes on the thread but the thread is rated a 1.

To me... maybe one vote per ISP or one nickname per ISP makes sense.....

Stars

Damn, this looks like a general staff meeting at the Pentagon with all the stars on this page, or the academy awards.

A Job For Terminix

No, no, no, Gray....they're not stars.

:p

They're cherub droppings. shereads has been waging a one-woman campaign to deal with this problem of cherub infestation, but it's been quite a challenge. Hence the cherub droppings that you've seen splattered all over the page with increasing frequency here at SRP... ;) :p

I usually just spray a little Lysol at the screen and try to ignore them as best I can :D

Cheers,

An open message to the children voting here:

I thought these forums were meant for mature members... Take a look at the boards, but go beyond the first page.

Can anyone tell me why a thread with an opener only is rated FIVE when other fantastic threads with brilliant writers are rated below two, many not making more than a solid showing at one?

Petty, competitive spitework by some few and their alters with nothing better to do. While you're sitting there playing your anonymous little games, did it ever occur to you that a newcomer and perhaps some others might think that this is a viable critique of their efforts? Maybe it doesn't matter as long as "your" thread looks like it's "best"?

The fact that almost every thread is now rated nullifies your intent. Personally I think that the ratings system should be removed from this forum as it is obviously and intentionally being misused and abused.

curious

nearly every thread on the front page has been voted for...

even the ooc's:rolleyes:

someone has much too much time on thier hands it seems and prefers to spend it voting senselessly rather than write

huh

Huh, I tried to vote on the 'Sticky; These are the rules' thread, but it said I couldn't vote on a closed thread.

A rare comment

Thumbs down on cretins who distort the rating system. Subjective as it is, I suspect the suggestion above to DUMP it is the best approach.

I think it is very sad that people make a great forum site with all its features and you get twats going around abusing the system by "fixing" the star system - making a really good thread appear "really bad".

Now that doesn't matter to us veterans who (as people have said before) rely on PMs and the number of reads their thread gets (assuming that good threads are read more than bad ones); but to novices who are trying to get their feet wet, it can be a bit of a put off - especially if they are not sure about themselves in the first place.

I still remember the kind PM that Merelan sent me after my second ever post. She really encouraged me that day. :D

My thoughts about the Star Voting System is that it should be abolished if the software will allow it.

I certainly don't like the idea of the site restricting the number of personas you can post under. Like others, I do have a main one and a few 'spares' which I use from time to time and I certainly do not use them to abuse the system. Anyway, my regular co-writers know who my other 'mes' are anyway.

Anyway. That's my view.

I have come to decide that the rating system is nothing more than a joke, therefore I ignore it.

Perhaps the real joke is being played upon us though, because the more we complain about it, the more threads show up with star ratings.

Rate the threads I write in as low as you want, I am not writing to please anyone other than myself and those that I write with. Sure, I like to read pm's from satisfied or otherwise, readers. My main goal though, is for a story to be fun and interesting for everyone involved in the creation of it. If you don't like it, don't read it, and keep your star rating to yourself.

Exactly. Voting might be OK if it wasn't so obviously capable of manipulation.

Well, it seems your comments on the stars have been heard.
They were a good idea that went bad.

Your opinions did make the difference.

Your opinions matter, so get out there and vote this coming Election Day.

And remember Graybread for Secretary of Evil
